Hi,

I have spoken with mum she remembers that her aunty Mary lived with her 'Ganny Lizzie' but sadly doesn't know anything about William Gaffney.

Warm regards,

Wendy

P.S I have been in touch with records for Winterton House (Sedgefield) but they said they had no record of Mary.  I was thinking maybe of seeing if she could have been on the staff?

Kind regards,

Wendy

Hi,

We seem to think Mary was still around in 1944.  My uncle said that he thought she had been in Sedgefield (Asylum then) and the story was that when my father and his two brothers were put in the Royal Liverpool Seamans Orphanage she had a break down and never recovered.  I have since heard she may have been a nurse or care assistant.  Joseph and Sarah were married in 1947 and there is no mention of Mary on certificate. Joseph died at Glebe House, Fishburn on 28th January 1988 and informant of the certificate was his sister-in-law.  I haven't checked recent electoral registers.

Many thanks,

Wendy

Durham Lookup Requests / Mary Alice Rose

Hi,  I have been searching for Mary Alice Rose for many years.  Mary was born in Tudhoe Grange in 1892.  She is on the 1901 census with mother Charlotte Storey and step-father Joseph Storey as Alice Storey and then on the 1911 census as Mary Alice Rose aged 18 (assisting home) living at Lincoln Street, Leeholme.  Having researched every possible avenue to find a death for her I am beginning to think I never will! I'm having one last ditch attempt however.  Could anybody find out for me if she was a nursing assistant somewhere near her home?  I have never been able to find a marriage for her and have a lot of wrong certificates.  Mary did have a son Joseph Rose he married a Sarah Longley but they never had children as Sarah wasn't young when he married her.  Mary was my father's aunt who took care of him and his two brothers when their mother sadly died in childbirth aged 31.  I would be extremely grateful for any assistance as my father, now very elderly, would love to know her resting place.

Many thanks,

Wendy

Durham / Joseph Storey

Hi,

Has anybody got any connections to Joseph Storey born 1851 in Tunstall.  He married a Margaret Croan who sadly died at an early age and then he married Charlotte Ann Rose, he was a Miner and they lived in Coundon.  He had about four sons and a daughter to his first wife and a daughter Jane (my grandmother) to his second wife.  Charlotte already had two children out of wedlock.

Many thanks,

Wendy
