Many thanks Phil,

Unfortunately not gleaned any names at present, but to coin the well used phrase I know a woman who might so the search continues and I will certainly keep you informed via your site.

It is great to know you will add it to your very informative site, these men I am sure would look down with a smile on their faces.

Many thanks Tony for taking the time.

If you don't mind I will print the photo as you have cleaned up.

If only I knew who they were, still the thing is to never give up, will get there in the end.

Thanks for looking,  I do really appreciate it, a long sit down and long think on this one.

Such a shame that the records were burnt.

If I may, how do you know that he did not serve overseas, is that down to the medal numbers which are alien to me

Thank you Jim,

I had the thought of not a working class photo myself, which puts the cat amongst the pigeons as all my fore bears were working class.

Little bit more diggin I think

Thanks for the input

Many thanks to you both for the info.

James, what a find, I am speechless, as you say definitely the same mine re the background and same superintendant, Walter Clifford (Superintendent) standing centre wearing the same medals, certainly different group of rescue brigade, am wondering if they all went from different colliery's to have photo's taken at the same time.

Whilst there are slight changes to the background IE men in the background and wagon movement it's too uncanny.

I have forwarded my image to the website in the hope they will find a place within it as I am sure they would be proud to have their image displayed.

Many many thanks for your input

Seems not him I am afraid, sorry if I misled you I meant seems like him because of the uniform

My Great Grandfather
Born 16th Sept 1881, in Stanly Wakefield, mother Annie Reynolds(Mortimer), Father Richard Reynolds.
1891 Census resident at 10 Pentonville, Stanley Cum Wrenthorpe, Yorkshire,
1901 Census resident at 184 Davy Street, Wakefield, Yorkshire, England  living with parents and siblings a Stone Mason by trade.
1902 Married in Scarborough to Ellen Knowles.
Children
Robert 1903
Nellie 1905
Harry 1907
Margret 1909
1911 Census resident at 13 Davy St Eastmoor Road, Wakefield a Stone mason by trade.
I next pick him up in the absent voters list of 1918, where he is absent from 13 Davy St Eastmoor Road, Wakefield. this as I say gave me his Army number
I next have his passing on the 2ND Jan 1933 at 5 Castle Avenue. Wakefield at the age of 51

Unfortunately I have nothing of his war time exploits, ( any details would be great ) but the more I look at the photo I think it is that of a younger man than Herbert would have been at the outbreak of War as he would have been in his Early 30's and I dare say the Stone Mason trade would have aged him.

The info on the spurs was great, I had forgot that the main way of transport would have been the horse.

Any further info would be great

Thanks for taking the time

Al

Many thanks for all your input, digesting all that you have brought to my attention.

Unfortunately no photographers address or studio, the picture was printed as a postcard, and the
" A half-penny stamp for inland One Penny foreign " does not narrow the time frame down either.

The only inscription on the back is hand-written " For Joe " so am searching for a Joe in the family around the turn of the century. { that would be 1900s keep forgetting we are in another Century now }

Many Thanks

Al
