Can anybody work their magic and tidy up this photo of my great-grandparents? Just the creases and blemishes - no coloration necessary. Thank you!

Could anybody help tidy up this photo of my great-grandmother and her twin boys? No coloration necessary, but getting rid of the large creases and the blemishes above the boys' heads would be much appreciated.

Hi nanny jan,

Thanks for your reply. From the censuses and other family records (baptisms and marriages), I'd imagine they would be buried in either St Clement's or All Saints' Church, or possibly Hastings Cemetery. So it really is the burial records themselves I'm after, if anybody has access to those.

Ben

Hi there,

I am looking for the following two burial records in Hastings:

- William Noakes, died Q4 1900 age 66
- Jane Noakes (his wife), died Q2 1887 age 53

Very grateful for any info regarding where they were buried.

Many thanks,
Ben

Hi,

I am looking for the baptism of John Noakes, probably in Westfield, in around 1770.

His marriage record in Hastings in 1792 gives him as "of Westfield", and the date 1770 is calculated from his burial record in 1848, which gives his age at death as 78.

Any leads much appreciated.

Ben

Yes, he died at Pett on 5 February 1880. There's an obituary in the Hastings and St Leonards Observer on 14 February, available on the British Newspaper Archive.

So 1810 does indeed seem likely for his birth -- it was Dallington that seemed unlikely to me (though not impossible, of course), as I have no other link with that place in my tree. After Thomas married Mary Barns in Northiam, they lived in Guestling until the 1850s, when they moved to Pett. On each census, Thomas says he was born in Hastings or Hastings All Saints.

John and Mary Noakes look like a possible lead -- will look into that. Francis becoming Thomas is also an interesting theory. If that is indeed what happened, it may be very difficult to prove, of course. Thanks for your thoughts!
