Hi Dave
The addresses for RHQ and each Bty from the war diary are as follows

145 (Berks Yeo) Fd. Regt R.A.
Camp 016
C/O GPO Hursley
Hants

395 (Berks Yeo) Fd. Bty R.A.
Camp 016
APO
England

396 (Berks Yeo) Fd. Bty R.A.
Camp 017
APO
England

509 (Berks Yeo) Fd. Bty R.A.

So the camps are C16 C17 and C22 not C18 - my bad memory. Do you have a copy of the map you can post ?

Also I found this on the web

Hi  both
I came across this post while googling Hursley in connection with DDay

145 (Berkshire Yeomanry) Field Regt RA ran three camps during the summer of 1944 C16 C17 and C18. The postal addresses of these was Hursley.

My paperwork is not with my so I cannot give the full address. Our regimental history states that they processed troops of the 50th Div with C18 having Durham Light Infantry and Seaforth Highlanders go through. Also C18 accommodated Americans & ATS either side of the camp. At night the our men used to mount a guard between the two and whack any American soldier with a pickhelve who was trying to sneak under the wire to the girls' billets

C17 although postally Hursley was located where the M27 services are now.

I will add some more when I have my papers to hand

Rgds
Andrew

World War One / Re: Info on these photographs, please!

Hi Matt
In regard to your first photo, It was taken after outbreak of WW1 as the men do not have leather leggings which were replaced by cloth putties seen here on the men. The IY below the capbadge is easily explained - With a large increase in men joining the regiment supplies of the existing cap badge were soon exhausted and before new ones could be made, the old Berks Imperial Yeomanry capbadge (worn 1902-1908) was issued instead.

I recognise FG Ford, a Corporal shoeing smith in 3rd Troop B (Reading) Squadron of the Berks Yeomanry, and from memory lived in Upper Basildon. I would guess the chap on the right is also from the B Squadron. I will check our archive to see if I can spot his face.

I enclose another one of Frank Ford.

Should you or your relatives wish to visit our museum in Windsor to learn more about the Berks Yeo, please let me know.

Hi Gig

Large draft of men were sent from the 2/1st Berks Yeo were transferred to the 4th Bn Green Howards in circa 1917. The 2/1st by the mounted on bicycles not horses were engaged both on home defence duties and the training up on conscripts. Wil conscription your were generally sent where needed and not nesessarily where you wanted hence a Birmingham man ending up with the Berks Yeo.
