This is absolutely unbelievable as I never thought I would find anything more about Fred and had given up thinking I would find more. I am sure this must be my man. Date of death and regiment match and I have  a birthdate of Oct 1892 where they say 4th Oct 1892. I have only one photo of him in civvies probably taken some years earlier which doesn't look exactly like this new photo, but is near enough. I don't know how to PM you and so am posting this reply. I would be very grateful if you could let me have the higher resolution scan if possible. Very many thanks once more.

Although 3 years late I have just seen your post regarding the Gas Light and Coke company 1915 Annual. Both my Grandfather and my uncle worked for them and my uncle Frederick Bird was killed in action on 25th Sep 1915 the first day of the Battle of Loos. He was with the  2nd Btn Rifle Brigade who I believe were that day involved in an action at Bois Grenier. I see in the index which you posted that an F Bird (machine gunner) appears in the roll of honour page 292. I had no idea he was a machine gunner and wonder if the one listed is my Frederick Bird. Can you let me know if there is any other info on him or even a photo. Any information would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
David Bird
