Denbighshire / Re: Robert Jones, Llanelidan, mid 1800s

You've got me there!  Do I put them as attachments here or can I somehow email direct to you?  I have one dated 1949, 2 1980 & 4 taken this week.  I live in Hampshire & was on holiday & took my grandchildren to see where I used to holiday! The house had no running water, no electricity, no sanitation & my parents took 5 children to the 2 bedroomed house, often more,  & then we'd sleep in a tent in the garden if the house was full!  You can drive some way down the lane but it's not far to walk from either end.  The surface didn't seem to have changed much & with a 4 wheel drive you'd probably have no problem, but we didn't walk any further down from the top than to the ruins, so I can't comment on accesing from the bottom.

Although this is over a year old I was very interested to see this as I spent my holidays in the 1950s in Bryn Melyn so I started to see who had lived there & came across this thread!  I have a photo from the 1950s & visited there last week, only to find hardly anything of the property left standing - sad.

Moray (Elginshire) / Re: Where was Atinlia/Attinlia in Moray?

Can't thank you all enough for your help - being a Golden Oldie I get a bit confused on these sites.  I will now try to add the PR entries for you all to see. 3rd attempt - I've had to cut them considerably but they are easy to read

Very definitely At, once with a single t & once with 2. Very clear hand writing.  I think it has to be a property name

Moray (Elginshire) / Where was Atinlia/Attinlia in Moray?

The register for Duthil & Rothiemurchus states at baptisms 1800 & 1807 that the father was of Atinlia/Attinlia. I can find no reference to this place.  Was it just a farm maybe?  Can anyone help please?

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Re: Chalfont St Giles c1690s

I note this query is a good few years old, however it might be worth me putting up what I have recently found in Aylesbury.  There are a good few published books on the Saunders there & the latest, updated in 2015, states that Thomas & Jane Rolls had: Thomas bpt 13 Aug 1691 d 14 June 1749; William bpt 7 Aug 1694 d 28 Nov 1745; Proby d after 1751; Edward d 1759; John d after 1751; Jane; Rachel bpt 1 Nov 1694 d Nov 1746; Elizabeth bp 17 May 1696, married twice.  However a document dated 1730 had "Wm Saunders Eldest son & heir apparant of Sir Thomas" & "Edward & Rachel Saunders two of the younger children of sd Sir Thomas".  Another document dated 1720 stated that Edward & Rachel were "infants", but they were both alive in 1701, so maybe "infant" just meant under 21.  So a bit confusing all round!

Is the marriage of THOMAS to Sarah Jane a typo as when Robert Thomson Bell died in Qld in 1897 his father is given as Robert, not Thomas.
Both these Bell boy's births are on the IGI & that also states their father as Robert. Robert Thomson Bell would appear to share the same grave as his brother Thomas Alexander in Toowong Cemetery, Brisbane.  Burial lists available on line.
I have a total of 6 children for ROBERT Bell & Sarah Jane McIlwaine, from the IGI.
Maybe Sarah J did what her daughter in law did & had brothers for 'husbands'!
My husband's connection is through Frances Caroline Butcher who married Robert Thomson Bell & then after he died had children with his brother Abraham Courtenay Bell

don't know if this helps, but Frances Caroline Butcher married Robert Thompson Bell, son of Robert & Sarah J McIlwaine, in 1891 in Qld, Australia.  He died in 1897 & she had her 1st child with his brother Abraham Courtney Bell in 1898.  I haven't found a maariage on any index & suspect they didn't - probably would not have been legal to marry your husband's brother?  they had 5 children in total & Abraham died in Qld in 1926
