Hi There, I think your William Deering was a first cousin of my granfather William Deering 1900 to 1968. I have come across the other William Deering 1899-1938 over the years while doing research into the family IRA & Civil War connections, to answer your question Glavnevin Cemetery or Mount Jerome Cemetery. I have personally called to the offices of both & they looked up graves for me.Glasnevin even gave me a map & marked the location of 3 unmarked graves of which one was another William Deering 1872-1927. If you can`t get to them, try ringing them. Best of luck

Hi Gary, Just over and see Christopher Deering was on some list or other. He always felt he was treated badly by the Irish State and served at sea until 1954. In one instance his Ship was blown up in Narvic Sound in 1940. Seven of them managed to swim ashore (Irish Press Dec 1940) including Tom Dixon from Towensend Street. They had to make their way over snowy mountains to Sweden without help from anyone....MancDeer

I don`t think your Christopher Deering is my great uncle as my great uncle died in 1942 in El Alamein.

Hi All, Sorry I only seen the information put on this thread over the last year now. Ok I might be able to shed some light on a few people mentioned here, My great grandfather was William Deering ( I don`t have his DOB to hand but its est B1872- D1927). William joined the British army in 1890 I have his Attestation form to hand here.He states his brother was James Deering mentions he is also serving in the BA could be Dublin Fusilers ?, William also states his father is also called William Deering of 15 Coombe Dublin. My Great granmother Williams wife was Bridget O`Neill. She is the Bridget Deering here in Chamber St in the 1901 census. William was fighting in the Boer War in 1901, he later rejoined the British army in 1915 & fought in France.

My Granfather was his son William Deering (1900-1968), mentioned on this thread also is a Christopher Deering (27/12/07-24/10/42) that married a Mary Jane Cush, Christopher was Williams brother , he died in the battle of El Alamein. The family has always said we are from Baltinglass Co Wicklow. Also of note William Deering 1900-1968 also served in the National Army during the Civil war was a sergeant in the Dublin Guard I have his records but he is missing from the army census !

Sorry if there is any confussion, Ok during the War of Independence Billy Corri was a member of the Dublin ASU. That means he was paid 4 pounds 10 shillings a week & his job was to take part in as many ambushes as they could against the British forces. The Squad (this is what I thought you meant) where a seperate grouping again paid 4 pounds 10 shillings a week, there job was more political assination also special jobs Micheal Collins wanted done, both did do jobs together but where separate units with different officers & bases. Billy went Freestate in other words pro treaty during the Civil War, he was as in the picture in charge of Kilmainham Gaol during the Civil War & your correct to say his brother Hayden served there as a prisoner after being captured fighting for the Anti treaty side in the Civil War. I hope this clears it up ! BTW Billy Corri was at my Great Uncles funeral also ASU & later squad, thats why I have an interest in Billy as they must have been friends.

Was Billy Corri not ASU man & later a member of the Guard (Squad & ASU joined after the Custom House)? I have never seen him listed as Squad member. I spoke to an old man who knew him a while back, he told me that Billy Corri told him when the treaty was signed the ASU where sent up the mountains to "train".The impression I got was, they where sent up the mountains in case they disagreed with the treaty & broke the truce.

Blog about this killing with a little new information:

http://heatseekers.blogspot.ie/2013/11/state-murders-of-children-in-irelands.html

Just read it, nothing new,in fact some of is wrong (which I can`t be bothered to point out !), just a reharsh of the TV program but missing a few important facts, like one of the lads had a gun ! Its more of less the same as two other articles I have read on the killings only they where better researched. If my 15 year old wrote that for a history project I would sit down & have series words with him !. I wish people stop rehashing bad history & go a do a bit of research in an archive instead of rewriting other peoples work !

Hi Chris I am delighted to be in touch.Emmet & Joe Leonard where dressed in Emmets uniforms, Rumour has it that there battalion badges gave them away, as that battalion was not in Dublin at that time.My pc packed in last week so I lost everything all my scans, I am using an old one at the moment but I may have a copy of that letter in my out box of my email account ! When I went to see my great uncles file in the army archives there was a note on the cover from your grandfather !  Gary
