Black over Bills mothers was used by my husbands family. Which confused him as his grandad was very old and his mother long gone.
My grandad always said It’s black over yonder!
If asked what was for tea, the reply was Three kicks at the pantry door.
Coming into a room, you were asked to put wood in’t hole.
Going to bed- up wooden hill to Bedfordshire.

Nottinghamshire / Re: Carlton Hospital death, Worksop

Hi, just a few thoughts that may help.
I have asked elderly relatives who think Carlton Hospital was the isolation hospital on Hundred Acre Lane, Worksop.  However they think it closed as a hospital in the 1950's.  There were two other hospitals in Worksop, Victoria Hospital on Memorial Avenue, now demolished and one on Kilton Hill also demolished and replaced by Bassetlaw Hospital.
There is a cemetery on Retford Road on the outskirts of Worksop but I was wondering if he would have been buried in the same place as his family?
The Worksop Guardian may have published some details of his death/burial.

Hi, don't know if this would help.
For a burial of this date (1802), it would have been in the church yard, (Worksop Priory), however the church yard was tidied up in the 1960's - I think, I was a child at the time and vaguely remember my dad commenting that they were moving his ancestors.  Some grave stones remain, moved to one side to form a wall, others still in situ.
The burial site on Retford Road was started in 1901.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Harriet Colton 1871 census lookup

Hi Debbi

I would stress the importance about obtaining a marriage certificate for Henry and Harriet which would give you more information regarding Henrys father.

I have noted the following information regarding the marriage of Charlotte and Thomas Cuff, but don't want to send you off on a red herring if this is not the family of your Henry.

Thomas Cuff = Charlotte Elizabeth Morris 5th November 1860 at Harworth, Notts.
Thomas Cuff, 40 batchelor, labourer, Oldcoates, father John Cuff, labourer
Charlotte Elizabeth Morris, 37 widow, housekeeper, Oldcoates, father John Cummins, labourer.

In 1861 Henry is living with Thomas & Charlotte Cuff, in Carlton in lindrick with Elizabeth 12 and George 3.

I have noted that George died in 1868 as George Morris Cuff

In 1851 Charlotte Cumming 24, is living with George Morris, 71, widower in Worksop.  He comes from Torworth, Notts. (Not far from Worksop) along with Elizabeth Ann born 1848

Should this prove to be the right Henry then there is a birth registered in Worksop in the first quarter of 1854 of a Henry Morris.

As I say, I hope this is of help and not a red herring.

Hi Debbi 1965
It has been a while since I did any family research.
I had decided that this Henry is not the same Henry who was baptised by Henry Morris and Elizabeth Heaps and had decided that Charlotte Cuff was his mother but hadn't traced who his father was.
I was wondering if you had obtained a copy of his marriage certificate and if so did it state who his father was?

Nottinghamshire / Re: Goose Fair

Hi
Just for background information, my OH used to visit the Goose Fair when he was a lad and remembers that along with the fair there were boxing booths, this would have been in 1960's, but remembers that his dad talked about them from his youth in the 1920's, the prize fighter travelled with the fairs and anyone could have a fight for about 2s and if he won he would get 10s.

One of the boxing booths he thinks had the name Wood or Woods on it.

Hi thanks for moving my post, I wasn't sure which section to put it in.

I wasn't aware that the registers were available elsewhere.

There are two that I am interested in, they are both a birth/baptism of William Floyd with a father of William Floyd, both at the Canon St, Baptist, Birmingham in 1807 and 1809.

I am particularly interested to know if the fathers occupation is mentioned.

Thanks D Orris
