There is a Constant Road in Margam opposite Taibach Community Centre but it looks like the houses were built in the 1930s and later

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Helen Lahey Hearn Gloucester
« on: Monday 25 September 23 09:14 BST (UK)  »
Hello Helen,
I have Lesley Arthur Hearn and his son is a relative of my daughters in-laws.  Lesley returned to India and his son remained and was looked after by a neighbour until someone called to collect him. The neighbour was a relative of a lady on this site username Stella and Stella was also trying to find out what happened to the child as her relative knew him and always wondered what happened to him.
It is 10 years since I was working and I as yet can not put names as they may still be alive.
This Hearn family are the in-laws of my daughters family who live in Scotland

Thank you Hinso, found it today. There are 2 cemeteries divided by a wall and gate.. searched a little in the first then saw the sign Camel Capel burial ground just the other side of the gate
Saw the stone for John Thomas Vickers and his wife Martha Jane  he died 31 Jan 1962 aged 77 and Martha died 9 February 1966 aged 76   At Rest   no other information shown.

A lot of graves have no memorial stone but I did note 2 others
Mary Vickers wife of William and devoted mother of Roy and Ron died 17 Feb 1994 age 81

No idea if related.

A bit confused..  I went to Carmel Capel to see if I could see any gravestones. It is in Gwaun Cae Gurwen about 6 miles from Pontardawe and  is now private dwellings opposite Gron Road GCG. Spoke to resident who claimed that there never was a graveyard at this chapel. I checked with another local who also said that there was never a graveyard here. I have seen the link which shows details of gravestones so do not understand. Google maps shows buildings at the rear and a large space for cars.
Not far from here is Tairgwaith which has a Brook Terrace but as far as I can see there is no Brook Terrace in Pontardawe

Thank you Heywood.. just drove up Ashton Road on Google maps.. looks like St Pauls church has gone
I don't remember the school but the red brick building may be the place.
Drove along Chapel Road, used to travel on the road everyday, I don't remember Vale Mill but I know the area on the map.
Cheers.

On the 1921 census it is noted that my father aged 7 attended St Pauls school, they lived in Hathershaw, Oldham... his father worked at Vale Mill
I have not yet found were Vale Mill and St Pauls school were.. St Pauls church is not far away and was the place where some of my family married
Any help finding these two places would be appreciated
Cheers

Lancashire / Re: Fitters Wages
« on: Monday 12 June 23 18:45 BST (UK)  »
I think that the wages 1890 would be around £1 per week. I started in a mill in Oldham  in 1956 and the wages were between £5 10s  and £7 10 shillings  for skilled engineers. However if your grandfather like me was born in Yorkshire... why throw away a pipe that still works.. even though they were cheap and disposable.

Thank you for your replies.
I had thought that with a name like Frank Bertram Palmer born March q 1896 it would not be too difficult to follow especially when I found a death that fits in Brisbane together with a death in Brisbane of a Roy Frank Alfred Palmer in 2016.
The 1921 census shows them in East Ham and the Frederick G Palmer is Frank Bertrams's younger brother born 1898 who I have recently found by rootschat to have had a twin brother adopted out by a fellow soldier and his wife.
I have been working on this tree for many years and it is only the Brisbane death notification  of Frank Bertram Palmer that has caused me to have doubts.
