Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Re: Carshalton marriage 1715

Thanks Jane, I'll follow up your leads. As far as Peltzer and it's variations go (Peltzar, Speltzer and others) my grandfather was Wilfred Nicholas Speltzer CHOWNE. I'm trying to trace the origin of Speltzer. I have Chownes in Wooburn Bucks during the 1700s and have a copy will of Sarah Peltzer of Wooburn, dated 1780, in which she mentions her cousin Thomas Chowne so it's likely there was a Chowne/Peltzer marriage at some point. I also have a will of John (Johannis) Peltzer of Wooburn from 1702. I think the name may be of Dutch origin. The name died out with my grandfather having been passed down since the 1780s.

Thank you both. Unfortunately there is nothing else on the IGI record. I don't know which church the marriage took place at or where the records may be kept. Do you have any thoughts, would the LDS film show any more info? I'm particularly interested in details of the parents.

Can anyone help with a look up or point me in the right direction? I need info on the marriage of Matt. PELTZAR and Ann CHOUNE, Carshalton 1715. These are the details on IGI and are all I have.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi

The Chowne / Peltzer issue is a long way down my tree. Is it the Chowne /Chown variation you are interested in?

My Chowne are most recently Sussex (Henfield) from about 1812 and then more widespread.

Thanks for putting me right on the "m"!! Still some work to do here I fear but now I realise that Thomas is unmarried I'll get his birth cert and investigate the Eccles area.  Thank you for getting me a bit further forward, your help is appreciated.

Yes thank you Nell

This one does look a possibility but it's from the 1881 census and shows him as married, 2 years before the date on the certificate. Could be an error or it could have been an earlier marriage(?).

Thomas junior had a son Harry, b.12/08/1889 by his wife Mary Ann (nee Gray). The birth certificate, registration district Camberwell, sub-district St George Camberwell, shows them living at 340 St. James's Road. Presumably this is also in the Newington/Kennington/Walworth area.

Would you be able to look up this address on the 1891 census. Your help is very much appreciated.

Thanks Nell,

Thomas was 27 when he married so was born 1856/7. His father was also Thomas, originating from Manchester or Cheshire but was noted "deceased" on Thomas junior's marriage cert.
