Montgomeryshire Lookup Requests / Jones - Llanerfyl 1850s
« on: Sunday 07 February 10 21:52 GMT (UK)  »
Please can anyone help with Birth/baptism records for a Susannah Jones b 1855- 56 in Llanerfyl. Her father was a farmer William Jones. Susannah was married in the Parish church in 1877 so I am hoping she was baptised in the same place.

Possibly some connection with nearby Rhos Gallt farm or Plas yng craen.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / George Green/Edith Boxall - Stepney
« on: Friday 29 January 10 18:05 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to locate details of a marriage between the above. I think it would have taken place about 1887-1890 in Stepney - the couple certainly lived in Mile End some time after. George was b 1862 and Edith c 1866. I am particularly interested in any recorded information about the groom's father and the witnesses. thanks

Montgomeryshire / Re: GRIFFITHS - Montgomeryshire

Could I please reactivate this one?

I now have Susannah's marriage cert for Llanerfyl in 1877 aged 20. So far so good. Her father is William Jones , farmer, address similar to Plas yn nghane, llanerfyl (?).

I am trying to trace her line back via the 1871 and 1861 censuses. Only match to a William Jones seems to be in the '61 where 4yo Susan(sic) is born in Llandrinio/Llanymynech - not really the same district. I think this is the same Susan who is servant on a farm at Garth Ucha near Llanfihnagel-yn-Yngwnfa in 1871 admittedly much nearer Llanerfyl.I can find no census records for a Susannah Jones born in the Dolanog/Llanerfyl area c1856/7.

There is one in 1861 boarding with a Thomas Jones on a farm nr her declared birthplace of Garthbeibio which is within a few miles of Llanerfyl. But his makes her 8 compared with the 4yo I am looking for - q a significant difference.

Maybe William has already died by 1861 but I would be grateful if someone could locate Susannah's christening - hopefully in the Llanefyl district c 1857.

The Common Room / Marriage Certs - Is father really alive?
« on: Sunday 06 December 09 23:02 GMT (UK)  »
I have had one or two instances in my researches where marriage certs list bride or grooms father etc as normal but do not show him as deceased and yet independent research suggests he may have died by the time of the marriage.

Do others have any similar experiences - I would be interested to get a feel for what percentage of certs ( this in England & Wales) may have incorrectly disclosed the father's 'status'.

Cardiganshire / Roberts - Llanbaddarn Fawr
« on: Sunday 15 November 09 00:04 GMT (UK)  »
Via IGI I have discovered a marriage in Llanbad in November 1818 between Richard Roberts and Jane
Roberts (sic). I believe a child Anne, may have been christened in Llanbad 1830. To eliminate from enquiries or continue I would like to know if there was any more info about this family and in particular, the father's occupation. I believe source data involved the Bishops transcripts.

Many thanks

Merionethshire Lookup Requests / Welsh Cattle dealers - Richard Roberts - Trawsfynydd
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 08:30 GMT (UK)  »
My gg grandmother Ann Roberts, b Llanbad(?) ( c1828 to c1869) was Richard's daughter. Her 1856 wedding cert in Llanegryn shows Richard as Cattle dealer.

I have information of a Richard Roberts (b1799) and wife Elizabeth (Hughes?) (b1795) , both from Traws. , living in Bala (Tegid St) in 1871 (and 1861) - Richd shown as wool merchant.

From 1868, I have Richd shown as Cattledealer bequeathing a piece of land in Traws for a school - again he & Eliz are shown b Traws, resident Bala - surely the same couple?

I also have an article linking Richd to a cousin, Richard Jarrett who was a wealthy drover in the 1850s and 60s, based in Corwen.

Potentially I have a lot of info about this Richd Roberts - I would like to confirm this link to the fascinating drover community of the time BUT I need someone to be able to make the connection bewtween Richard and Ann.

If I am barking up the wrong tree, I would be relieved to be redirected - this is driving me bonkers!

Lanarkshire / BOWMAN - Hugh - Barony
« on: Sunday 01 November 09 23:07 GMT (UK)  »
I have this record  from Scotlands People of my gg grandmother from the 1841 census:

BOWMAN REBECCA F 13 BARONY GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 622/00 081/00 005

What I assume were her parents were shown as Hugh and Agnes Bowman b 1807. Both I believe were born in Ireland although Rebecca was born in Glasgow. I have a possible sighting of Agnes in the '51 census but of Hugh, nothing. Any possible death records or any other records (including marriage) welcomed.
