That looks like my great great grandfather in Osnabruck, Stormont 1861 census.

I will have to try to unearth the marriage info on Alexander and Samantha (Diana) somewhere.

However ..I am not sure about the final 3 grouping in the 1861 census

ELLIOTT William 29 b Ireland
ELLIOTT James 19 b Ireland
ELLIOTT Alexr 14 b Ireland

I don't think that William and James could be sons of John and Eliza ..due to the ages on the census.

The potter occupation is a definite link throughout Ontario for Alexander.  There were Elliott's in London Ontario who ran a pottery company and an Elliott brother team in Aultsville in the mid to late 1800's.


It may be possible that John is the brother of Alexander, William and James?  I think I need to call in Lt. Columbo on this one!!!  thanks for the info ..Rob

I am looking for info from the marriage of my great great grandparents.  ON the Mormon site ..they have them listed as being married about 1872 in Williamsburg Township, Dundas County, Ontario, Canada.

Their names:

Alexander Elliott    b: 1846
Samantha Baker    b:  1853

Samantha's first given name was Diana, but was referred to as Samantha on numerous Canadian census.

They were both listed on the 1871 Canadian Census as married living in London, Middlesex East, Ontario ..and had an 8 month old son James... so they could have been married earlier than 1871.

If someone could find their marriage listing ..it should have both parents listed, which is what I need to go back another generation.  Also

Do Ontario death certificates for that period (and marriage certificates as well) not list parents?

I have not been able to view the death certificate on microfilm yet ..but have ordered it to be sent to my public library.

As for his marriage certificate I am hunting this one down too

Thank you for the quick reply and information.

The information on Alexander Elliott from the 1891 Canadian census has his religion listed as Church Of England ..and Birthplace is listed as Ireland.  His occupation is listed as a Potter

I have yet to find his parents info.  This would be on his birth certificate/record ..and I have yet to find his marriage record ..although I believe he was married in Ontario Canada as his wife Samantha was born in Ontario.
