I have now confirmed that Dad was born 1897, which would suggest he did not join under age do you think. I have just found in some other papers a Memorandum bearing the stamp of the "Territorial Force Records Office, Preston" dated April 1916. This appears to be returning something and has hand written on it ( 2323 Hughes A 3/3 West Lancs Brd???  R F A. Would this information be enough for somebody to tell me where he served ?

Another interesting thing is that his WW2 Pay Book shows in "Particulars of Former Service" his former Army No: as 686429. I dont know why this would be.

Gosh, that was quick. Yes, he was Arthur Hughes and he was born in Liverpool. I do have his original 14/15 Star with his number etc on it. I think his year of birth was 1898, or there about, but I can check that if need be. It would be really nice to find our what areas he served in.

He was also in the army during WW2 but I think he would have been too old to go abroad. His army No: then was 2050351. Don't know if this helps.

Thanks,

World War One / Father - Where did he serve in WW 1

I have just joined the Forum and hope that somebody can help me. I am trying to find out where my father served during WW 1.

My father never really told us a lot about his service but I understand that he went France ( I think ) when he was about 15/16 years of age, as many did. He was initially with the 6th Liverpool Rifles and joined at Warwick Street Barracks, Liverpool. Some time during his service he joined the Royal Horse Artillery.

His regimental No: was - 686249. I know that he was awarded the 14/15 Star.

I am afraid that is as much as I know.
