Northamptonshire / Abbott/Knight family bible
« on: Saturday 19 December 09 01:58 GMT (UK)  »
My uncle Colin Abbott sold the family bible shortly after the death of Grandma Mary Jane Abbott in about 1961. I would dearly like to acquire it or at least have sight of it. Anyone seen it or know it's wherabouts? It is inscribed with a list of names in the front. It is dark leather bound and I seem to remember it had a fancy brass lock on it.While on the subject I am keen to hear from anyone who has links with this family in the Thrapston/Isham area from about 1950 backwards. The entire family came from a 10 mile radius of Thrapston. My grandparents used to run the pub in Isham called The Old Red Lion.
Many thanks

Yes she had two or three brothers one of whom was Hubert Bertram Petford. She also had a sister. Her fathers name was George Petford and I think his wifes name was Annie. George was born c. 1853 and his ancestors came from a village near Worcester called White Ladies Aston. Maud became a nurse in the first World War and went to Egypt. She ran away from her first husband leaving my father and his sister to be brought up by the grandparents. J.G
