Suffolk / Elizabeth Storke - burial 9 Jul 1692 Peasenhall, please verify
« on: Thursday 30 July 15 23:58 BST (UK)  »
Per findmypast.com there is a burial entry for Elizabeth Stork 9 Jul 1692 in Peasenhall, St. Michael Church.  However, someone has used this date as a Christening date in FamilySearch.org.  I need someone with access to the original record to verify that this is truly a burial record and not just transcribed incorrectly in findmypast.  Or is there any notation with the entry to reclassify it as a Christening?  Is there any indication of parents, age, marital status that can help me clarify this?
If you see any other entries within the area that might match my Elizabeth Stork who married Richard Ward in 1718, Wilby, I'd appreciate any leads/clues.
Thanks

Suffolk / Patience Ward b. about 1811, possible Middleton
« on: Monday 12 May 14 04:22 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for the parents of Patience Ward b. abt 1811, possibly in Middleton.  She is named as a granddaughter in the Will of Samuel Ward in Theberton 1815.  She is not in Theberton or Leiston parish records where other Ward family are located (I have copies of those records).  Possible parent is Samuel Ward Jr. or John Ward.  Samuel Jr. dies in 1810 which could be the reason his possible daughter is named in her grandfather's Will.  Possible marriage for Patience is to William Canler in Ufford 5 May 1833, a contiguous parish to Melton where we also have Ward family settled.  This Patience and husband William are in Elmswell on the 1851 census stating birth in Middleton with an age for birth in 1811.  Is this a match?

Can anyone confirm a birth for Patience Ward and parents, likely in Middleton around this time period.

While we are in Middleton can anyone locate the marriage of Samuel Ward (Jr) and Mary Godward, banns posted 19 Nov 1809 in Theberton with Samuel a single man of this parish and Mary Godward, single women of the parish of Middleton.  No actually marriage record in the Theberton records.  Did the marriage take place in Middleton?

Thank you.
Carroll

Wicklow / Re: Elizabeth Patterson, b. abt 1823 of Kilranelagh, Wicklow

More ideas.  I have a copy of the original marriage record from film.  Clearly Patt..son  The middle letters have room for some interpretation but Patterson is the most logical choice.  The name appears twice on the record.  The Ts are written the same for Nesbitt.
My death info comes from records of those who died leaving an estate, filed by her son, James.  I'm still trying to find a copy of the Will.  Pennsylvania vital records are very limited in Pennsylvania due to fires and parents aren't commonly listed on US records at this time in 1882 if a certificate were located.

Thanks everyone for your clues and insight.  I suspected that since no parents were listed on the marriage record that either the priest was not being detailed or that neither of them actually knew parents and that their residence at this time is not their origin.
William was described on the Civil War Pension file as a Mason.
I can't find a confirmed immigration record and only a possible barely readable 1850 US Census listing in New York.  The Pension File indicates they immigrated about 3 years after the marriage.  They settle in Pennsylvania.  There is no record of any children before they settle in Pennsylvania.  First known child is born in 1851.  Did they really not have any children for 6 years.  Umm...  Children names are John, Elizabeth, Isabella, James Oliver and the last George McClellan named after the Civil War general under whom William served.  The children were christened in an Episcopalian Church.  There are numerous Nesbitts within the Pennsylvania area so I have to wonder if they have relations there or merely coincidence as nationalities tended to group together.

You keep adding straws to ponder on.  Yes, these were among the earliest of Mormon converts.  I have to wonder if the non-Conformists were perhaps more receptive to the Momron faith.  Are there any records to look at in Hoghton for the non-Conformist.  Certainly worth looking.  I agree it's interesting her maiden name was not included in the Mormon records.  Many of the females did have the maiden name indicated, including a daughter-in-law.
At least you have enriched the history for us.  Thank you.

Thanks, Pennines - it's a start.  I was wondering about the history of Hoghton's beginnings.  Her birth date comes from the date she provided when she joined the Mormons in 1837.  Her census record age aligns OK with 1777, and she's consistent with Hoghton as the place.  But as we know from dates in this time period it can be tweaked.  She married a man born in Leyland who's last sibling appears in Longton and where all of Jane's children are born.  But neither the Leyland nor Longton records have Jane Blackhurst.  There is some hesitation that the Jane that marries James Sumner is actually Jane Blackhurst.  Several other surnames have popped in the family records but either I have disproved them or cannot prove their existence.  The marriage in Penwortham of James Sumner and Jane Blackhurst is the only one that seems reasonable and has been on the family records for some time so for now, pursuing Jane Blackhurst.

Yes, I've tried the on-line parish clerk with no results.  It seems the Hoghton records are not there or very sparse at this time.  Otherwise this has been a fantastic site as I've pursed the Sumner side of the line.  Also noticed that Preston is limited as well.

Wicklow / Elizabeth Patterson, b. abt 1823 of Kilranelagh, Wicklow
« on: Sunday 19 January 14 21:57 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for a baptism record of Eliza (Elizabeth) Patterson.  She is born about 1823.  Her marriage record in 1845 is age 23 (=1822),  my next confirmed record on her is the 1860 US Census age 36 (=1824).  Her marriage record to William Nesbitt in Kiltagan 10 Nov 1845 in Kiltegan lists her residence as Kilranelagh so this is a starting place.  Parents are simply "unknown" for both.  She is Eliza on her marriage record but her Civil War Pension File names her as Elizabeth but signed as Eliza.  Can anyone give me a clue where to look for her?

I'm looking for the Baptism of Jane Blackhurst, born 20 Nov 1777, Hoghton, Lancashire.  Looking for parents.  The Hoghton records available on film are too late to help.
She married James Sumner 26 Jul 1803 in Penwortham.  All of the census records for this couple list Jane as born in Hoghton.  She gives this as her birth on her early LDS records in Preston.  This marriage record is the only one aligning for a James Sumner and Jane for date and general area but seems a bit geographically out of place unless her family had moved by the time of her marriage.  All of their children are born in Longton.  1841 Census is in Longton, 1851 Census in Preston.  (The James Sumner and Jane Banister in Leyland are a different couple)
Thanks for any help.  I'm dead ended here.
