Many thanks Maureen. Unfortunately he does not appear on here. Have already searched this.I don't think there is a connection with Cornelius but you never know. John's parents were Jeremiah and Ellen. John came out and settled in Waimate South Canterbury. There were other Horgans also in Waimate, strangely Jeremiah and Ellen!  (No relation as far as I can see.) Maybe they might be your friends relations. I sent away for Jeremiahs dc to find if they were related..His parents were John Horgan and Mary Sullivan from Killarney Kerry. Check the Waimate cemetery. There are lots of Horgans there.
There is a Cornelius Horgan listed on the Westland directory as farmer, Temuka 1923

Hi There. Went to Motueka Pioneer cemetery to look for your headstone. Sadly, very few have survived and there was no sign of his.. The noticeboard at the gate has his name on there though.

 Recently I received a record for Hugh McKAY, born to father Angus MCKAY in Leadbrach, Latheron.
Could some one tell me if this is the name of an area, or a farm? I haven't been able to find it.

 ???I am searching for some trace of Angus MACKAY. His wife Janet Maculloch is in the 1811 eviction list for Rhemusaig, and again in 1841 census, in Rhemusaig. No mention of her husband Angus MACKAY either time. The only child I can find for them is Hugh MACKAY b 1810c, father of the children with Janet  McCulloch in 1841 census.  Hugh's 3rd son is named William , and I wondered if perhaps the William Mackay shown on the eviction notice could be the father of Angus.
If anyone could suggest where or how to proceed from here ,I would be very appreciative!
