New Zealand Completed Requests / Burial Location 1869 Cogan
« on: Wednesday 14 September 11 11:05 BST (UK)  »
Can someone please look up a burial for Francis Cogan (or possibly Keoghan or similar spelling). The surname was spelt KEOGHAN but as his wife couldn't read & write the spelling was changed to COGAN - with a strong Irish accent it was spelt how it sounds, I suppose.

It is on Papers Past as Francis Cogan who drowned in Waikato River at Cambridge and found at Rangiriri 22 February 1869. The inquest was supposedly held at Rangiriri but no mention of where he is buried, he came from Cambridge. I haven't a copy of any inquest but family 'stories' have it.

My G.Grandfather.

Given maes N/R
Year of death 1869
Record No. N/R
Record Type Misc
Age N/R
Location Waikato Auckland U 20
(Location - this I understand relates to drownings)

•   COGAN Francis
Frank was 25 years old when he enrolled with the 3rd Waikato Militia on 17 November 1863 in Nelson. He was Private 784, born in Ireland and a labourer. He received his one acre section number 505 in Cambridge West and his 50 acre farm at Pukerimu. He is listed on the Aquitance Roll of 1868 held at National Archives in Wellington
His death is recorded in the Southern Cross newspaper as having drowned at Cambridge 20 February 1869.

I am wanting to know how I can get a copy of his death printout as I cannot find him on NZ BDM online also locate where he is buried. Hamilton & Cambridge are unable to help - possibly too far back for their records ?? I cannot find anything at Auckland Archives either.
Thank you.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / 1841 and 1851 Census - TAYLOR, Charles
« on: Wednesday 06 April 11 02:09 BST (UK)  »
Can someone please find the 1851 and 1841 Census for Charles and George TAYLOR for me, please??

I am looking for the 1851 Census for West Riding Yorkshire for Charles TAYLOR b. about 1801 Sheffield and son George TAYLOR b. about 1842 Sheffield. Then the 1841 Census for Charles TAYLOR before son George was born.

I found them in 1861 as below. I know this is the correct father and son as I have George TAYLOR (GGrandfather) marriage printout 5 May 1861 at Parish Church Morley, Dewsbury. The occupations on the marriage have George a Wool Mixer and father Charles a Wool Dresser. George TAYLOR married Mary Ann RICHARDSON b. about 1838 Morley daug of James RICHARDSON and Hannah ?? - I have the 1861 Census for the Richardson household showing James, Hannah, Mary Ann and son Nat (Banks Hill, Morley). I have the 1871 Census with TAYLOR George, Mary Ann and three children (13 Sussex Court, Leeds) also the Richardson household with James, Hannah, sons James and Nathaniel and grandson Alfred Taylor (60 Bank Street Crowthers Yard, Morley).

I am trying to find out who George's mother was, Charles was a widow in 1861. I do not know when father Charles TAYLOR died but George and Mary Ann Taylor with children moved to Australia in 1874.

Any information greatly appreciated.

Monaghan / KEOGHAN from Co. Monaghan 1830's.
« on: Thursday 17 June 10 10:56 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find details of my Grandfathers family from Co. Monaghan. Spelt KEOGHAN on marriage certs but may have variations (McKeoghan, Keogan etc). Father Daniel KEOGHAN but unsure of his wife's name (Mary ??) - children Owen b.1834, John b.1835, Francis b.1837, Patrick b.1838, Joseph b.?? These children listed moved to New Zealand, on death certs in NZ some spelt McKeoghan. I do not have any birth certs, only marriage certs for 4 of them . In 1858 at Durham UK, Francis Keoghan m. Mary Doran from Co. Armagh (F. Edward M. Catherine Fife), they had my Gfather on the ship to NZ.
Also any info on Mary Doran would be good too. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Australia / TAYLOR George RICHARDSON Mary Ann Hindmarsh SA
« on: Saturday 12 December 09 00:06 GMT (UK)  »
I only have Hannah Taylor b 16/08/1874 at Hindmarsh and Fred (not Fredrick) b 28/09/1881 (registered 14/10/1881) at New Thebarton, Hindmarsh, South Australia. The parents are George Taylor an Engineer and Mary Ann Richardson. I have nothing more on Hannah, George or Mary Ann - don't know if they came from England or where-ever. I am unsure if there were any other children.  I have no marriage or deaths for any in Australia. Fred came to NZ when he was about 17-19 (1898-90). I have everything on Fred once he married in NZ - he is my husbands Grandfather. I do know that around 1915-20 George & Mary Ann were still in South Australia wanting to come to NZ but Fred's wife sent the mail back return to sender. Family lost contact after that.
