Lancashire / Thomas Crehan's lodgers, Leigh & Galway
« on: Monday 25 August 14 16:01 BST (UK)  »
In 1911 census at 14 Thomas St Leigh are:
Thomas Crehan (32) born Galway and his wife Emma (31).

There are also 2 boarders:
John Kennedy (22) and Thomas Hynes (24) both born Galway

John Kennedy may be my grandfather who was killed in the First World War.

Can anyone shed any light on Thomas Hynes maybe from a family tree?

I am particularly interested in where Thomas Hynes was born in Galway? It is even possible that John Kennedy and Thomas Hynes are cousins from the same area of Galway but that is clutching at straws.

Galway / Thomas Kennedy Marriage, Bullaun?
« on: Monday 25 August 14 15:38 BST (UK)  »
According to 1901 Census, Thomas Kennedy (45) and his wife Bridget (30) are living with Thomas' mother Honoria (70) in Bullaun, Kilmoylan plus their 5 children: Patrick (9), John (7) Ellen (4) Mary (3) and Thomas (1).
Seven year old John Kennedy may or may not be my grandfather who was killed in the First World War.

Can anyone help with finding out the maiden name of Bridget Kennedy and when they were married?

Lancashire Lookup Requests / George Lanaghan Marriage Prescot
« on: Tuesday 01 June 10 21:23 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for look up information on the wedding of Gearge Lanaghan or Lanigan to Ann Flemming which took place in 1874 in the Prescot District.

What I am looking for is:

the Church they were married in, probably RC
and if there is any mention of the names of the best man and bridesmaid.

I think that both bride and groom were born in Ireland and up to now I have been mistakenly searching for the marriage in Ireland

Thanks

Kilkenny / Fleming Family
« on: Tuesday 25 May 10 21:05 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information on the Fleming family who lived in or around Inistiogue in 1850.

Theresa (or Teresa) Fleming who was born, I think about 1850, and married Philip Fogarty in St Helens Lancashire in May 1871. The marriage certificate gives her father's name as John

She died of Typhoid fever in January 1877 having had three children, Margaret, John and Philip: John was my grandfather.

I have several times started and given up trying to find Philip Fogarty's roots in county Kilkenny so now I am re-starting the search via his wife Theresa Fleming.  I am interested to know if there is any information out there on her parents and siblings.

Thanks for any help

World War One / 24495 1st Batallion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers
« on: Sunday 03 January 10 19:07 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone on this unbelievably helpful forum
help me find or even make a well informed guess at when John Kennedy
who died 15 October 1918 and who is recorded on the Tyne Cot Memorial as 24495, Private John Kennedy, 1st Bn. Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers enlisted in the Inniskilling Fusiliers?

I believe that by using other soldiers whose numbers are close to 24495 we might make an educated guess.

Any help would be appreciated

Armed Forces / Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers: John Kennedy
« on: Thursday 31 December 09 19:29 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for help and advice on finding some more information on John Kennedy who died 15 October 1918 and who is recorded on the Tyne Cot Memorial as 24495, Private John Kennedy, 1st Bn. Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.

John was Irish, born in Galway (I think) but enlisted in St Helens Lancashire early in the war. Family tradition says he was invalided out of his regiment and returned to his young family in St Helens only to re-enlist and later be killed a couple of weeks before the Armistice.

Any help would be really appreciated as the above is the sum total of my knowledge of John Kennedy, my maternal grandfather.

Kilkenny / John and Philip Fogarty Family
« on: Sunday 20 December 09 20:12 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help in finding Philip Fogarty who died in St Helens Lancashire in 1891 aged 53.

He was born in Thomastown or thereabouts probably in late 1830's. Could also have been around Inistiogue

Philip's father was John Fogarty who is is described as a farmer on Philip's marriage certificate.

This has been a long and so far at least, a frustrating search. Any help welcome

Monaghan / Lennon Ballybay
« on: Sunday 20 December 09 20:00 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for brothers John and James Lennon, born in Ballybay or close by, around 1854.

John possibly studied at Maynooth but both emigrated to St Helens Lancashire according to the 1881 Census.
