I have a distant relation who was described as such on the marriage registry entries of his daughters. His daughters married a UP minister and a writer so he must have been very respectable. What on earth is a Dye Wood Grinder? Can anyone help please?

She was painted by Raeburn but I am unable to find her dates. I want to check if she is the same person as the Mrs Colin Campbell who gave  my grandfather, AOM Mackenzie, a present on his marriage in 1903. It was a scent bottle that had originally come from Henry Mackenzie, 'The man of feeling'. Can anyone help please?

Lanarkshire / Thomas Halley

Can anyone help please? People on this site has been very good to me before!
Thomas Halley, possibly born in 1777, was my ancestor. On his children's birth entries James in 1814 and Janet in 1815 he was described as a grocer in Glasgow and his wife as Janet Mckison. I have found a marriage entry for a Thomas Halley and Janet Mackieson in 1808 in Barony but he was described as a farmer. My social history is not good but could it be the same man?
