William George Earle, my Grandfather, died of his wounds which he suffered in the trenches on 1st July 2016, from his diary which he kept we know he was then sent back to England to the Brook War Hospital in Woolich, he died on 10th July 2016 leaving his wife Ada and six children, my Dad (Bill)being the youngest at 4 years old.  My family didn't know any of this until my father sadly passed away.  We came across a newspaper article describing his military funeral in Adelphi, Salford, Lancashire and after reading this we all felt very proud and there were two extracts from letters to Ada, one from Nurse F McMahon and one from the Chaplain both from the14th Stationary Hosp, Boulogne Base, which must have been very comforting and reassuring to his family at the time because it appeared even though he was wounded in four places with shrapnel he appeared  to be in good spirit, he asked Nurse McMahon to convey his love to Ada and dear children hoping they were well.
William George moved to Salford as a youngster with his mother (Mary) and father (also George) from Glasgow in 1881, then his little sister Margaret was born soon after. His resting place is Weaste Cemetery and the Last Post was sounded.

I have since visited the Cemetery and he is in a lovely place under the blossom trees.
God bless.

Northumberland / Charles WHS Charlton - Suicide 1871
« on: Saturday 20 October 12 19:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have just received the death certificate of my Grt Grt Grandfather Charles William Henry Shields Charlton and was so sad to see that he had committed suicide on the 19th January 1871 and on the cert is states that there was an inquest held on the 21st January 1971, Northumberland.  I was wondering if anyone could advise whether this would have been in reported in the newspaper and if so where would I start to look.

At the time Charles was a Clerk to the River Tyne Commissioner and it is awful to think he would end his life in such a way and leave a wife and five children.

Thanks in advance for any information to point me in the right direction.

Hello

With valued previous info regarding my Maternal tree which was found on Rootschat I am trying to find anything re Charles William Henry Shields Charlton, from his daughters marriage cert it indicates that he was a Naval Commisioners Clerk (hard to decipher) and I'm not positive but he possibly worked for Smiths Ship Yard, Tynemouth?  He died aged 48 in approx 1871.  It would be lovely if I could find something of his time at the Ship Yard - I have Census records for him and his family but not much re his job.

Thank you
Annie  :)

Northumberland / Narrowing down birth record - Mary Jane Charlton
« on: Tuesday 24 May 11 14:55 BST (UK)  »
I have received lots of valuable help and information from Rootschat since searching my family history.

I have found 3 Mary Jane Charltons on the birth records for 1890.
Tynemouth 10b 213 Jun Qtr
Newcastle T 10b 29 Jun Qtr
Newcastle T 10b 15 Sep Qtr

I have found her on the 1891 Census records and states she was born in NorthShield.  Also on her 1889 marriage cert her father is Charles William Henry S.... Charlton (deceased).

Is there any way of narrowing it down so that I don't send off for the wrong birth certificate as I have been very lucky with previous certificates which have proved to be the correct family members.

Thank you

I

The marriage between Mary and William Earl was in Liverpool 29 Mar 1875 even though William was from Derry and we are sure Mary was from Greenoch.

Derry (Londonderry) / William Earl - Derry Birth Help Please
« on: Wednesday 18 May 11 14:47 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I am trying to find any details for William Earl, born 1848, Derry. I can find him from 1881, by then he had moved to Scotland where he married Mary and they had a son William George, then later in Lancashire a daughter.

William's surname on each cert I have obtained is spelt differently according to where he lived,
Earl, Earle, Earrel and even Errol and his trade was a Sugar Boiler.

I would appreciate any info.
Thank you
Annie

They moved to Salford from Greenoch where William George was born, the last census I can find her is 1901
