Cavan / Oliver Story parents
« on: Friday 14 December 18 10:24 GMT (UK)  »
I have a 20 year old brick wall. His Military record shows that Oliver was born in Drumalee, Co Cavan, about 1798. He joined the 58th Regiment of Foot when he was 16. In 1827 he married Emily Lord, b about 1795. They had 2 sons that I know of, Richard 1828, and James 1832. Oliver and Emily are both buried in Belturbet,  Co Cavan.
I am hoping to find Oliver's parents and siblings. It seems there were no civil records at the time of his birth, and I can't find a Church of Ireland record either.
I'm getting old and running out of time.............

Cumberland / Storey and Noble
« on: Saturday 06 October 18 11:10 BST (UK)  »
My brother's DNA test shows that we have a distant relation who was a Noble. The link was probably due to an adoption or illegitimate birth. I have contact with several Nobles. One has marriages between the two families. Does anyone have historical information about these families around the Bewcastle area which might help me. My oldest known ancestor was Oliver Story, born 1798 in County Cavan. The Noble match had an ancestor in County Down, about 1770.
We believe the families may have gone to Ireland during the Ulster Plantation in the 1600's.

George Thomson moved to South Africa, and married Mable in 1895 at Fordsburg,
Johannesburg. He may have been a miner.
They had a daughter, Barbara Muriel Alfreda Thomson, b. abt 1920
George died in 1928.
Mable died in 1943, Barbara was her sole beneficiary.
There were a lot of George Thomson's born in Scotland....I hope this might 'ring a
bell' with someone!
