Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / Bristol Police

Hi,

My great great grandfather, George Knight was a Police Constable in Bristol during the 1860's. He is listed in the 1861 census, however in the 1871 census he is not shown and his wife, Caroline is listed as being a widow, and their last child, Edward was born in 1870. There is no record of great great grandfather George's death in the BD&M. Can anyone suggest where I might search to find out what happened to him? Perhaps someone has access to the Bristol Police records. I live in Australia so access to British records that are not available on-line is very difficult. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I am trying to obtain the service records of my great grandfather, George Swanson, who was in the Royal Navy during the 1870's and at the time of the 1871 census he was serving on HMS Wolverine. He immigrated to Australia about 1881. I understand that these records are not available online but can be viewed at the National Archives. My difficulty is that I live in Melbourne Australia. I would dearly love to get a copy of my great grandfather's service records. Is there anyone that can help? Thanks

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / George Swanson

I am trying to trace my great grandfather George Swanson. All the documentation that i have (marriage cert, death cert etc) shows that he was born in Middlesex / London about 1854. His parents were Charles and Anne. I have located the family in the 1861 census but I am unable to locate my George in the BMD index's, even after searching the years surrounding 1854 and spelling variants of the surname, such as Swanston. Is there anyone who can help me resolve this "mystery"?

Wales / William Davies

I am trying to trace my great great grandfather, William Davies. He was born about 1842 in Wales and his parents were Thomas and Ann (maiden name Jones). William married Mary Annie Francis Noy in London in 1868, and they immgrated to New Zealand in 1873 and then in 1880 to Australia. William and Mary had 8 children, 3 of which were born in UK, another 3 in NZ, and the last 2 were born in Australia.

There are literally hundred's of William Davies in the BMD who were born around 1842. Perhaps someone would be kind enough to look up the 1851 and/or 1861 census to try and locate the family. Or perhaps there are some other ways of tracing him. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I have located my great great grandparents in the 1861 UK census and my gg grandfather's occupation is shown as "Kesterer". I have desperately searched to try and find out the definition of a kesterer, but to no avail. Can anyone help me solve this riddle?

I am trying to trace the Lloyd / Phillips family. Sarah Phillips was born abt 1824 in Shifnal and she married David Lloyd. They had at least one child, maria Lloyd who was born 5/11/1839 in Snedshill. Maria married John Culey about 1860. Can anyone add any further information please.

I am seeking information about the Culey and Lee family from Shropshire. George Culey born 18/12/1796 in Wellington, Shropshire. George married Elizabeth Lee who was born abt 1794 in Priors Lee, Shropshire. They had at least one child, John Culey who was born abt 1831 in St Georges, Shifnal. I would be most appreciative if someone can help with further details.
