Sussex Lookup Requests / 1851 Brighton, SHEPHERD
« on: Saturday 26 November 05 08:34 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone find Moses Shepherd and wife Sarah in Brighton in 1851?
They would possibly be in their 50's, born Earles Colne/Colchester area.
Thanks, Elaine

Just a shot in the dark really but I wondered if anyone could find a Moses and Sarah Shepherd/or spelling variant, in 1841. They would have had 3 or more children

Can anyone tell me where to look for records of crimes or/and newspaper articles? I need to look because my g.grandfather moved himself and family out of Colchester to Brighton rather swiftly...my v.elderly aunt said that she remembers being told that it was a 'midnight flit'(?)and that he was standing bail for someone and perhaps things went wrong??I'd love to know the real story. It all happened sometime between 1891 and 1901.

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / 1851 a Colchester family
« on: Thursday 21 April 05 07:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Is there anyone out there who could look up Moses and Sarah SHEPHERD(or similar spelling) in 1851? They were apparently living at Victoria Pl. Wyre St. Colchester. Trouble is that this info. was written in my untidy notes a while ago and I dont know where it came from!
If someone could kindly confirm this info. I would be very grateful.

I wondered if any of their children were still living with them or are still in Colchester? Thomas was the youngest b.1833 so would have been 18...others (who I suppose would have flown the nest by now )getting older in steps were John 21, Sarah 23, Hannah 26, Henry 28, Susan 30, Charles 32 and William 33.
I have info already on the last one, William.
Regards
Elaine

Completed Census Requests / 1891 census SHEPHERD

Regarding the 1891 census....
Can anyone out there find the whereabouts of William Shepherd b.1849 Colchester, Essex? He is not listed with his family who are in Brighton. He seems to reappear in 1901, with his family, but is named Walter (though in 1881, 1871 , 1861 etc  he is always William).

England / 1891 census SHEPHERD

Hi all,
Can anyone find my g.grandfather on the 1891 census?
He is William Shepherd b.1849 Colchester, Essex. He is not with his family who are in Brighton. He appears again in 1901 as Walter! There are indications from my aunt that he had been in some sort of trouble and that the family had left Colchester rather hastily (in the words of my Aunt they did a 'midnight flit'). This must have happened sometime between 1881-1891.
I do wonder if he deliberately avoided being on the census so that he could not be found by any officials. I wonder if many people were living but not listed on the census - was it easy to avoid being on the census?
Regards, Elaine
