Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / LateC18th Sudborough- Tebbut
« on: Wednesday 11 July 12 18:23 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have the Sudborough PR ? I'm looking for two John Tebbuts born at the end of the 18th century, both these John Tebbuts were gamekeepers or keepers as it was called then :

The first one who is my ancestor married in 1709 Mary Ball they had at least 4 children in Stanion where John was a keeper:
John 1710
Mary 1713
Alice 1715
Robert

It is a possibility he is the John Tebbut born 1682 s/o Jonas & Alice in Sudborough.
My question is, on Genes Unite they have him buried 1725 but not where, was he buried in Sudborough then?

The second John Tebbut also a keeper ( of Fawsley) left a 1749 Will in which he names his 2 brothers, Robert who married  Mary, and Jonas a grazier of Sudberow I think who married a Susanna and had 2 sons John & Jonas who was born 1737.
My question here is who were the parents of these 3 brothers John, Robert & Jonas who I think were born in Sudborough I would guess in the 1690's.

Thank you
John

The Lighter Side / How many ancestors do you have puzzle
« on: Monday 02 April 12 02:38 BST (UK)  »
I guess I'm a bit old fashioned I like to make my family trees on large sheets of paper, only one of the many branches I was able to get to 1530's but when I tried to put blank spaces for all the other branches that I've yet to fill in I found by the earlier 1500's I would theoretically have had 4096 direct ancestors.

This got me to wondering, as by the early 13th century the number of direct ancestors is about 2 million, so as this number grows  the world population is getting smaller as we go back in time, what happens when the number of direct ancestors exceeds the world population?

Or am I missing something?

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / John Frith in Gt Marlow shewer man
« on: Wednesday 09 November 11 19:46 GMT (UK)  »
In Ancestry's 'Duties paid for apprentices' indentures' there is :

16/12/1802 William Frith appenticed to John Frith, Skewer man of Great Marlow, Bucks.

My question is unless he was selling kebabs what was a skewer man? The writing is very clear, so he definately wasn't a sewer man, i.e. a tailor.

Any ideas

Thanks

I have the marriage certificate of an ancestor who married in the Westminster registry office in 1938. In this certificate it notes they were married by license.

My question is who should I contact to get a copy of this license?

Thanks

Suffolk Lookup Requests / 2 Bury St Edmunds C17th marriages CHAPLIN & HALLS
« on: Wednesday 30 March 11 15:44 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me, I have two marriages in 17th century Bury St Edmunds but I do not know which church in Bury they are from:

1. From Boyd's marriage index
1689 Edw. Chaplin to Cath. Halls
I'm interested in getting a more exact date and which church in Bury.

2. From a IGI write in:
31/10/1665 of a Charles Hall/Halls possibly to Elizabeth Polley of Hadleigh
Again I'm interested to see if this is correct as some of the IGI write-in are not always true.

Thank you

Technical Help / scanning micro fiche
« on: Friday 18 March 11 16:05 GMT (UK)  »
Sometimes the only source of parish registers I have available is micro fiche sold by the country registry office. Often these images are of poor quality, and with the limited magnification the readers at my local library have are unreadable.

I have notice were digital images are available I can usually manipulate a poor image enough to be able to read it.

My question is can micro fiche be scanned so I have a digital image. I've tried with a set-up I have on my scanner that I used for old colour transparencies but with no success.

Any help apreciated.

Thanks

Suffolk / Ann NEALE born 1683 Mildenhall
« on: Tuesday 18 January 11 03:56 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find the ancestors of Ann Neale who married Edward Fincham on 1/10/1704 in Mildenhall.

The IGI has an entry that says she was born 24/10/1683 in Mildenhall but does not give any parents. I wondered if anyone has the Mildenhall PR and could look this up for me?

Thanks
John

Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Hadleigh mass confirmation 20/5/1784
« on: Monday 20 December 10 01:53 GMT (UK)  »
Just using internet sources I've come across 3 people in family trees that were 'confirmed' at St Mary's , Hadleigh on 20th May 1784, they are:

Daniel Double ( who was bpt 26/7/1762 in Holton)
David Armstrong ( who was born C1759)
Hannah Rosier  d/o Robert a labourer (bpt 16/8/1767 Hitcham)

In a early Victorian book on Hadleigh it says that as confirmations by the Bishop ( ? of Ely) were so rare, that when it was planed to have such a rite performed in Hadleigh people came from all the nearby villages to participate. This source says 1507 people were confirmed that day, another souce says 38 ( quite a difference)

My question is there a list of these people still around and if so where?

Thanks
John

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Roger Walker in Boveny
« on: Monday 15 November 10 14:57 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have the Boveny PR?

I'm trying to trase a Roger Walker & his wife Sarah who had a son baptised 25/5/1732 and another 19/1/1735/36 both in Burnham, that's all I had on him.

But I just found on the Bucks Record Society site that on 20/4/1732 that a Roger Walker was sworn in as a petty constable in Boveny, as Burnham & Boveny are pretty close and Roger Walker is not that a common name in the area I wondered if there was any records of him in the PR 1720's to 1744.

Thanks
John
