Australia / William Bevan Williams b1885 Magor Monmouthshire
« on: Friday 06 March 15 00:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

William Bevan Williams emigrated to Australia sometime after 1911.

A relative found his attestation papers on NAA whilst looking for someone else. We know he is the right 'man' as he gave his next of kin as his father John Williams Grove farm Allt Yr Yn Magor.

From William's attestation papers we can see that he saw service in France in 1917 & was wounded - gunshot wound to right foot and later gassed He spent time in hospital in England and eventually went back to Australia. It is thought he returned to Australia aboard the ship HMAT Militades

We have not been able to find out what happened after his return to Australia.  Some where along the line, we have gleaned an address - Regent St Redfern Sydney. We don't know if this address is pre or post war.

I know this is all rather sketchy but we would really like to know what happened to him after he returned to Australia. We can't seem to find any records for him - neither marriage nor death.

It would be lovely if someone could possibly take the time to look some look ups.

Thanks in advance

Monmouthshire / Shocking murder at Ragland 1842
« on: Wednesday 25 February 15 22:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

Vague family stories state that my 3x grandfather Valentine Hughes wife Maria, murdered their baby daughter Eliza, by drowning her in a pan of water and cutting open her abdomen. So gruesome!

I have seen an account that confirms this in the Monmouthshire Merlin (via welshnewspapers on line).
It appears to have been pre meditated as a witness at the inquest states she tried to by arsenic prior to carrying out the deed. It is also inferred that she was overcome by insanity.

I have tried to find out if there was a trial, but cant seem to find any reports. Does anyone know what happened to Maria?

Any information would be appreciated

Many thanks

Wales / Lucy Evans mystery
« on: Monday 09 February 15 20:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I hope someone can help resolve this query.

Lucy Evans appears on the 1881 census as living in the household of Elisha Bevan 21 Britannia Rd Llantrisant (piece 5297, folio 119, page 36).

Relationship to head is adopted daughter.

Birthplace Cefn
Where would Cefn be?

I have found a baptism for a Lucy Evans Aberdare Chapelry Hirwaun  on 21 March 1872.
Would this tie in with the birth place of Cefn? Of course I dont know if it is the same Lucy Evans.

I cant find any trace of Lucy on any census, marriage or death after the 1881census

Can anyone out there help me find out where she came from & what happened to her?

Thanks

Hello

I have been trying to find images of the above without success. Does anyone know if the place is still standing? or what its history is/was.

I think I possibly had relatives living there late 19th - early 20th century.

Thanks in advance

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Nain for a tidy please?
« on: Thursday 03 January 13 00:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hopefully attached is a scan of a photo photo of my Grandmother, Sarah Ann Bevan. Please can you work your magic and tidy her?

No objections to any colouring. All I know is that her hair is dark brown. I have seen the original photo which is in postcard format on the reverse. As far as I recall there is no detail of the photographer or printer on the back. It's thought the photo was taken in Cardiff or Pontypridd.

Sarah was born 15 February 1892 in Cefn Vaynor. I do have a date in mind and wonder if the experts can confirm it by the clothing

Many thanks

Glamorganshire Completed Lookups / Television factory Pontypridd?
« on: Wednesday 05 December 12 21:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

Does any one know anything about about a television factory in the Pontypridd area in the early 1950's?

Have just discovered a rellie worked there as an 'assembler in television factory'

Was it a major employer? Is it still in existence or if closed, when did it close?

Would be pleased to hear any memories.

Thanks
