Shropshire / Ann Cooke, nee Rogers
« on: Sunday 13 January 08 16:27 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone take a second look on census records for me.

I have Ann Cooke in Myddle married with her family from 1871 onwards.

She gives her age as being born 1843/44 on these census records and her place of birth is given as being Wem, except for 1891 when it states Myddle.

I am struggling to find her with her parents.
In 1861 she is in Harmer Hill aged 16, a servant.

Her marriage cert states her father is William Rogers, Labourer.

I have found one entry in 1851: HO107, Piece 1992, Folio 322, Page 40 but I'm not convinced it is my Ann. I have tried to find this family in 1841 to rule them out but cannot find them either.

A second pair of eyes would be great
Thanks Allie

Denbighshire Lookup Requests / Absent Voters Lists
« on: Friday 02 November 07 18:29 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me if there is an Absent Voters list for the Cefn Mawr area.

My G Grandfather served in the 1st World War and I am struggling to find many details on him.
After taking advice I have been pointed in this direction.

If there is a list, can anyone tell me where I can get to look at it?

Many thanks for any information

Flintshire / Butterton, Flintshire
« on: Friday 05 January 07 20:24 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking at the family of a Mary Ann Butterton baptised 1829 Penley Flintshire, Father John and Mother Ermine.

She marries a Samuel Morgan from Overton in 1853, their daughter Martha being my Great Grandmother.

Does anyone else have any links to this family, or can someone point me in the right direction to where I may be able to view some parish records.

Caernarvonshire Lookup Requests / Parish records look up
« on: Wednesday 23 August 06 21:11 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping that someone may be able to help me with regards to a look up from parish records.
I would normally order a birth certificate for this but have so far been unable to find one. Sadly 'my lot' did not always register their children's births.

I have an Ursula Howells born c 1848 in Dwygyfylchi, Caernarvonshire. In both 1851 and 1861 she is living in Shrewsbury Shropshire with her Grandparents. In 1861 she is transcribed as 'wsala'.

I am hoping to find out her parents names. At the moment I am not sure if she is a daughter to my direct line or a niece.

Its a bit of a long shot, but any help or pointers in the right direction would be great!

Thanks Allie

Montgomeryshire / Llandyssil help needed
« on: Friday 10 February 06 14:34 GMT (UK)  »
Is there anyone here who has local knowledge of Llandyssil.

I have recently discovered that my GGGrandmother died in Llandyssil at Hasthorn House in 1917. She was 92.
I have no idea why she would have been in Llandyssil as all her family were still living in North Shropshire.
Is this house still there and could it have been some sort of nursing home?

Any help would be very welcome

US Lookup Requests / Passenger list look up please
« on: Sunday 06 November 05 18:26 GMT (UK)  »
I may be asking the impossible here but can anyone find out who my ancestor went to America with.

Someone looked up his arrival for me ages ago but I have lost most details when my computer crashed last year. All I have still is:

David Lewis
Arrival - August 31st, 1833
Port - Philadelphia
Origin - England
Ship Name - Brig Driver
Infant

The only other details I have are that his mother died and his father had remarried so he was given the chance of a 'new life' in America! Letters from the family in later years mention that he was 'adopted' by Aunt and Uncle Jones which isn't very helpful I know :D

Any tiny piece of info would be great. I have him on census records in 1860, 1870 and 1880.

Kindest regards
Allie

Denbighshire / My Denbighshire Interest
« on: Sunday 05 June 05 19:50 BST (UK)  »
I am researching the name Richards within the Ruabon area.

My GGrandfather was Edward Richards ( known as Ned) born c1876 in Ruabon. He married Catherine Griffiths in 1898 at Acrefair Chapel.

I have a massive brick wall with Edward. On his marriage certificate his father is named as Alfred. I can find nothing on any census return where there is an Alfred and Edward.

I am aware that Welsh families often had a birth name and then were called something different and I am wondering if this is the case. There are at least 4 Edward Richards born in that area at that time so I feel a bit stuck

The only facts I have is the marriage cert and the 1901 census where Edward is with  wife Catherine and children John and Edward.
In later years the family moved to Llay andEdward worked in the colliery ther.

If anyone can help with any information I will be extremely grateful

Shropshire Lookup Requests / 1841 Look up Shrewsbury St Mary and Holy Cross
« on: Thursday 02 June 05 09:52 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if someone can have a look in these 2 parishes for me please?

In 1851 I have an Edward Howell living in Dolphin Row in the parish of St Mary. He is 34, a widower and employed as a platelayer on the railway.
With him is a son, name only given as W B ( I think it is William though) aged either 12 or 13. Both are born in Shrewsbury.
Edward was also born in the parish of Holy Cross, so he may be there

I really need to find Edward in 1841,

Many thanks

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / 1851 census look up, Samuel Jones
« on: Wednesday 04 May 05 19:41 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone could help me with regards this family.

On the 1861 census I have Samuel Jones aged 36, a timber faller born in Prees Green Shropshire.
He is with his wife Sarah 41 also born Prees and daughter Elizabeth aged 10. Elizabeth was born in Longport? Staffs. There is another child with them born in Staffs, at Maybank but that was in 1853.

This puts them in Staffs in 1851. Can anyone have a look for me and see if they can find them.

Many thanks
Allie
