The Common Room / Details on a Birth Certificate
« on: Friday 13 April 18 19:31 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the name of the mother on a birth certificate that was registered in Stoke-On-Trent. The child was born on 13 April 1928. I know the full name of the father but the index only gives me the mother's maiden surname. Would the registrar have also written the mother's full name i.e her first name or names and where she lived or would they have only recorded her maiden surname?

Wexford / Connections with the Drapes family of New Ross
« on: Tuesday 03 April 18 13:55 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have a connection to the family of Richard Drapes born about 1745 died 1805/6. He owned a brewery there at one time. He married Prudence Lamphier in Waterford. There are suggestions they married 17 May 1792 but that seems late could it have been 1772(?). They had a son Samuel who died in 1820 in Toulon, France and a daughter Prudence who married John Ardagh Russell.

Tipperary / What is the connection of these names on a baptism record
« on: Sunday 01 April 18 17:51 BST (UK)  »
I have turned up one of those records where you scratch your head because you know the names match your research individually but when on the same record don't gel.

Bottom line is who are the parents (their names) and the name of the child. How is Catherine named as the fourth person on the record related to the other three people. I've worded it thus so I don't put my interpretation ahead of an independent interpretation of what's going on here.

Waterford / What is this Census Entry All About?
« on: Monday 16 October 17 11:39 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I have an unusual census entry. First that it is 1841 or 1851, as not much of it survived.

The other aspect or query from my perspective is that a young boy Edmund as the applicant appears to be seeking information about his family. I presume the Priest is the person he is seeking the information from. Has anyone seem a similar type of record and can they shed more light on it, please. My initial hunch is he is orphaned but that is speculation.

Waterford / Recommendation of life in Ireland circa 1900
« on: Sunday 15 October 17 12:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am in the process of doing my maternal family tree of Irish ancestory. However, I want more than just a chart I want to add a narrative of what their lives were like. Can anyone recommend a source I can use to research this. I'm interested in particular about their diet, what they did for recreation, how they travelled around (transport). I have read that the working week of a mother was almost a pre-ordained tradition of Monday was washing day another was ironing or is this urban myth.  I am not looking for history book history but real life experience. Am I making sense?

Waterford / Fitzgerald and Duffin Families of Co Waterford
« on: Friday 13 October 17 10:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am trying to trace the parents of a couple who marry at Killea Co. Waterford in 1864. They are James Fitzgerald who was a carpenter from Tramore and  Mary Anne Duffin (sometimes see her as Duffon but I put that down to being misspelt). I am assuming Mary was from the Killea area and that is why the marriage took place there. I am aware they had a least one child Mary Anne Fitzgerald. Does anyone know of these families and if so share information, please.

Waterford / St Patrick's National School 1890 - Waterford City
« on: Thursday 12 October 17 18:53 BST (UK)  »
Found some of my ancestors school records. They attended St Patrick's National School in Waterford. Where was this located i.e. was it by the Infirmary or by what is now the De La Salle  College?

The years of attendance are the late 1880's into the 1890's. Is a photo for the  school at this time still in existence today because if one is I'd love to get hold of a copy.

Waterford / RC Baptisms for Fenor circa 1903
« on: Thursday 12 October 17 11:06 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am unable to find a civil record for the birth of my grandmother who was born sometime in 1903 +_ 1 year. I need alternative proof since the birth appears not to have been registered. I have looked for alternative names and dates across the whole of Ireland for period +- 5 years and nothing.

Using another strategy I suggest/believe she was most likely baptised at the RC Church of Fenor as that is where her mother was living when she married in 1901. My grandmother initially lived with her grandparents for the first five to six years after her parents married. NLI online has the  earlier parish registers but not those for the period I'm interested in.

How and where are the later registers held and accessed?

Hi

Don't want to give anything away but the attached baptism record is one that I wasn't expecting so can I have a full translation of it from Latin back to English. At least one parent is 'unexpected'
