Glamorganshire Completed Lookups / John Morgan 1871 Census lookup request
« on: Tuesday 15 March 11 13:28 GMT (UK)  »
I am currently researching my Grandmother's line, and am trying to identify my Great Grandfather John Morgan in the 1871 census .
I have found him in 1881 aged 24 where he is already married,  located in Michaelstone Lower, Aberavon
In 1891 he is in Pwll y Glaw with his family, including my grandmother Lowry Myfanwy Morgan aged 2months.
so i really need to find him in 1871 aged about 14. All i know is that his father from his marriage certificate is William Morgan, and he was born (according to the 1891 census) in Cwmavon.
can anybody help?
it isn't a lot to go on, anything gratefully received

World War One / Died in 1917,WW1
« on: Saturday 06 March 10 12:14 GMT (UK)  »
my granmother's baby brother, Eddie Samuel Morgan, was reported as killed in the local press (Aberdare Leader) . The report was dated Nov 10,1917 and said he had been killed 2 weeks previously. I have a photo  of him in uniform which has been identified as London Scottish.

there is no reference to be found in the CWG database. I also have not found a medal card for him. This is very puzzling. The photo stayed on my granmother's wall until her death in 1962.  I have sent an old soldier request to the London Scottish regiment, but do not hold out much hope. Anyone got any ideas?

Monmouthshire / help/advice wanted
« on: Saturday 06 March 10 08:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone
I am trying to find mention of my Gr Gr grandfather's birth ,his name is Charles Williams, who dies in 1912 aged 82. He is buried in Ebenezer URC churchyard in Pontnewynydd.
my innocent view was that all i had to do was find out where he came from according to census records and then being born in c 1830, you can try and identify the correct parish records to look at and there you are.....or not. ???

it helped that he lived in the same area for more than half a century, in or near Nightingale Village, Trevethin
census year  where born
1901              Llanvihangel-vach,Mon
1891              Monmouthshire,Pontypool
1881              Monmouth,Llanvangall-vach
1871              Monmouth,Llanvihange(l)
1861              Monmouthshire,Lanvehangelach
1851              Monmouth,Llanvihangel

I know that his father was John Williams , a sawyer. in the 1850s Charles got married and John is mentioned. He married again in the 1870s and this time John is deceased.

not knowing where to start I have looked at the Parish Records for most of Monmouth and can't locate a birth.

In 1851 he is living with Mary Williams and relationship is son. She is 61 and a widow.

Am i at the end of my journey as far as Charles is concerned? Are there any non conformist records to look at? if so where? Thank you for your patience :)
