Occupation Interests / Occupation help
« on: Sunday 25 November 07 19:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,  can anyone read the occupation of my ancestor John Taylor born abt 1819 in the 1851 census.  He is living at 79 Raven Street, St Marys, Southampton with his wife Jane and children.  The first word is labourer but the next two words I can't make out.

Also is the "where born" a ditto for Southampton?

Many thanks

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Brindley Birth Record
« on: Thursday 22 November 07 19:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, has anyone with access to Ancestry able to help me find the birth of Ernest Robert Brindley in Southampton.  According to his marriage certificate he was 21 in 1888 and the census records do tie in with that so I am hoping 1867.  If I can get this birth record and send off for the certificate I will definitely be kept busy for the next month or two :)

Many thanks

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Jane WIX
« on: Sunday 24 June 07 16:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi has anyone please got access to Bashley Parish Records.

I have a Jane Wix born Bashley abt 1822 - her father was Thomas Wix a shoemaker.  Jane went onto marry John Taylor on 29 July 1841 in Hordle and then was widowed and married William Rumsey at All Saints, Southampton in 1865.

I have been unable to find Jane or John in 1841 (im not sure when the census was taken before or after she married).  I can't find anything about Thomas Wix.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Best wishes
Elaine

The Common Room / Stoker PO
« on: Thursday 28 September 06 13:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi, this is probably a silly question but just want confirmation really.  My GG Uncle served in the Royal Navy firstly as a Stoker, then Leading Stoker and then Stoker PO.  Am I right in assuming that PO stands for Petty Officer ?

Many thanks

Armed Forces / Regiment Numbers
« on: Thursday 11 May 06 09:04 BST (UK)  »
How I find out what someones Regiment Number was in WW1

Frederick Taylor was a Sapper in the RE
Leslie Taylor was a Pte in the Devonshire & Dorsetshire Regts
William Taylor was a Private in the 3rd Hampshire Regiment

I would like to look at their service/medical records at Kew (or online) but it would narrow the search down considerably if I knew their regiment number.

Many thanks

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / John Taylor Burial
« on: Thursday 04 May 06 11:35 BST (UK)  »
Looking for the Burial Record of John Taylor (brn abt 1819).  He was alive in the 1851 Census living in St Marys area of Southampton with his wife Jane and children.  He is not in the 1861 Census (the family are now living in Millbrook, Southampton) and Jane Taylor remarried to a William Rumsey in 1865.

Many thanks
