Antrim / Confused about data on family tree sites.
« on: Thursday 27 April 17 12:35 BST (UK)  »
In researching information on William Owens (1734-1839), I have found sites which indicate that his mother was Matilda Knox and that she was born in 1672, which would make her rather an elderly mother. I know modern methods allow for elderly mothers, but surely that would not have been possible in the 18th century, unless, of course, he was adopted?

Antrim / McIlroy Dreen, Cullybackey

One of the names I am researching is McIlroy. My McIlroys descended from one of 2 brothers who immigrated here from Scotland. I'm sure we are linked to another family of McIlroys, but cannot find the link. I have details of my great great grandfather's marriage in 1846, which indicate that one of the witnesses was a William McIlroy. I would love to know if this William was related and how or if he was just a friend, since there were so many people with that name. My great great grandfather was called Thomas McIlroy.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Antrim / Jane Owens born around 1883 Larne, County Antrim

Does anyone have this lady in their tree? I came across her name in the 1901 census. She shows up as a niece of another Jane Owens, who by then was Jane Jenkins. I am trying to verify who the father of each Jane was. The location is Browndod, Kilwaughter, County Antrim.

Fermanagh / June Stewart, Enniskillen

I posted this message earlier today, but can't see any sign of it on the forum, so here goes with the 2nd attempt!

I was interested to come across some posts relating to the Stewart family of Enniskillen and wondered if anyone could help me solve a mystery.

One of my great great grandfathers was Hugh Henning of Carnew in County Down. A surviving member of the family is quite sure that he was married to a June Stewart, whom I think she said came from Enniskillen. However any records I have come across would seem to indicate that Hugh was married to a Mary Jane Corbitt and there is no mention of June Stewart.

Thanks.

Down / Henning/Hennan, Carnew

Does anyone here know anything about the Hennings of Carnew? They were also known at one stage as Hennan and other spelling varieties of that name. I am trying to find out when and why the name was changed to Henning.

Thanks,

Antrim / James Owens, Larne
« on: Saturday 04 September 10 23:34 BST (UK)  »
I have a copy of a tombstone inscription that says that James Owens, son of Alexander Owens, died in December 1912 aged 61. I have found a record of a James Owens in the 1901 Irish Census and also in the 1911 one along with his wife and children. There is another James Owens in the 1901 Census, along with his wife and children. The latter James is 2 years younger than the other one, but I can't find any other record of him. My problem is that one of his children mentioned in the census is Rachel, but a written note of my aunt's mentions a Rachel in connection with the first James. To confuse matters even further, one James appears to have been married to a Mary Owens and the other to a Mary Jane Owens.

Anyone know this family?
