« on: Friday 16 January 15 03:29 GMT (UK)  »
Searching for John Cooney, married to Bridget.  Lived in Tipperary.  Son also John born around 1820 and who came to Australia around 1840 ish. There is a family story that John jnr was a convict. We have the death certificate of John Jnr,he died 1875 and his father and mothers name is on that.  John Snr is down as being a labourer and he is deceased. We also have wedding certificate of John jnr and harriet mary Herring/Hearne.  We think John jnr left Ireland around 1840 to come to Australia.  John snr could have been born around the late 1700’s

Glamorganshire / Murphy's in Maesteg
« on: Monday 20 June 11 23:16 BST (UK)  »
Hoping that someone can help find a link. It is important that a family friend finds his irish ancestry.
He has very little to go on.  He also has very little on his welsh roots also.

Joseph William Spencer (b. around 1867 in Wolsingham, Durham) married a Mary ? (b. Maesteg around 1870)

They are down as being in Durham in the 1891 census.

Their daughter Elizabeth Ann Spencer married a Joseph Murphy at St. Patricks in March 1909 and had a daughter also Elizabeth in 1915.  Joseph William Spencer (coal miner) is down as deceased at this time.
Joseph Murphys father is down as John Murphy, General Labourer.

Elizabeth the daughter also married a Murphy, but left him and came to Australia with her new husband. I think there were two other sisters and a brother.

Many thanks in anticipation

Wiltshire / HANCOCK in Box
« on: Thursday 30 December 10 00:40 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace a friends family.  Her grandfather was born in Box around 1877. His name was Albert Edward Hancock. His father and mother were John and Eliza (nee fisher).  There were ten children in this family. John Hancocks occupation was a stonemason.
I know they were married at Thomas A Becket church in 1865.   I see there are two hancocks on the war memorial in Box, not from this family but maybe cousins ?.  Alfred went to australia.
Hope someone out there can point me in the right direction or have some photo's of Box and its stonemasons.

Lancashire / Skeat Update
« on: Thursday 08 April 10 23:45 BST (UK)  »
With grateful thanks to those that put me in the right direction on my quest to search for my ancestors I am pleased to announce I have found more than I can handle.  I now have wall to wall SKEATS, right back to Benjamin Skeat born 1720 in Liverpool.  At first we found we had welsh ancestry and now we are scousers.  I have also found lots of new 'cousins' in New Zealand and we are in touch daily. I even have a distant reli down the mountain range from me here in Australia.
Trawling through all the skeats and their descendants it looks like there was an awful lot of them in TYldesley.
Thanks again to CaroleW and those on the forums that helped.

Still looking for the Prescott and Neal families of Tyldesley,Atherton and Leigh

Leicestershire / Richard Neal
« on: Thursday 11 March 10 22:10 GMT (UK)  »
I have found a possible link to a richard Neal of Leics. in my ancestry. So I've popped over here to see if any one has a richard neal (both father and son) with connection to Lancashire/derbyshire or Yorkshire around the last half of 19th century and beginning of 20th.  My grandfather was Joseph Neal (1911-1935), his father and mother were Albert Neal and Ellen Pendlebury.

World War One / I.D. needed - WW1 regiment
« on: Thursday 11 March 10 20:54 GMT (UK)  »
I am struggling to find out anything about my grandparents. My grandfather was born in Glasgow (I think) and served in WW1.  He might have been in the Scots Greys or the Black Watch. I do remember a photo of him in a dress uniform next to a beautiful light coloured horse.   His name was either Wilfred or William Lewis.  He could have been born around 1890. But family history is very sketchy. At least if I could identify his regiment it would bring me a little closer to knowing who he was.
Many thanks in anticipation

Lanarkshire / William or Wilfred Lewis - Gorbals, Glasgow
« on: Thursday 11 March 10 00:09 GMT (UK)  »
I am seeking info on my fathers father Wilfred or William  Lewis, he married Florence from Edinburgh (?), he was in the Royal Scots Greys or the BLack Watch (info is uncertain here) in WW1. He also worked on the railways. He had 9 children (the youngest being my father).  The family moved to York perhaps in the late 20's or the early 30's.
I understand this info is limited but I am in Oz and family memories are scant. Over the years I have lost contact with my cousins and all my aunts and uncles are now dead as is my father so I really don't have anything else to go on.  He died in the early 50's before I was born and so did my grandmother.

Many thanks in anticipation

Lancashire / Skeet - Atherton/Tyldesley area ? Joseph Neal(e) - same area
« on: Wednesday 10 March 10 23:39 GMT (UK)  »
I'm just starting getting serious about tracing my roots.  I'm asking around family members for names and places but as I'm in Oz and they're in Lancashire and memories are somewhat dimmed its hard.
I have been told that there is an Annette Skeet (though not sure on the christian name, who might have been an opera singer who was a great aunt.  I am also searching for anything on Joseph Neal(e) in the same area who died aged 23 (?) around 1935/6 who is my grandfather. I have no information on him other than that he was a coal miner and married Sarah(Sally) Prescott.
I can't really go back any further until I find info on the Neal side.  I don't think there is any deep dark secrets, just people growing apart and losing conntact over the years.
Many thanks in anticipation of someone somewhere knowing something.
