The Common Room / Walter Hardy 1903-1921
« on: Thursday 11 October 18 20:40 BST (UK)  »
Walter Hardy born Morley, (Wilmslow) Cheshire 19/08/1903 to Sam and Sophia Hardy. I've got his birth details from a family bible and also found an entry in the England & Wales BMD Index. Walter died 04/04/1921 - details from his grave stone but, at the moment, I can find no record anywhere of his demise. Family history has it that his father Sam went to France to bring his body back home, but I have no idea what he was doing there. Could he have been in the Army, but he sounds a bit young for that. Any suggestions on where to look next?
Thanks.

Hi there,

Have just discovered the attached picture in some family things we were sorting through. No idea of which side of the family so therefore have no idea who is in it! The picture is very small and poor quality (looks like the dog moved during the shot!) and we've no idea what they represent. I can think of all sorts of amusing captions for it though.

Cheers

Hi there retouch wizards,

After your amazingly successful work on Jane Olive Hughes here is a picture of her maternal grandmother Ann Mason (nee Roscoe) 1837-1895. Originally from Sutton and Prescot and then settled with her family in the Chester area.

A tidy up in black and white would suffice. Maybe somebody could also date the dress style?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Can anyone remove the crease mark and give this photo a general clean up please; it was taken in 1915, and is of Jane Olive Hughes at the age of 18. Her son and daughter (who are both well into their eighties) would like an 'unmarked' copy for their families. We are happy with a plain black and white reproduction.

I hope that the resolution is good enough to work with.

Thanks in advance

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Grimsby 1946 Obituaries
« on: Wednesday 28 October 15 19:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for a possible obituary for a death in the Grimsby area in 1946. My newspaper archive access only shows the Grimsby Daily Telegraph and those entries only go up to 1939. Any suggestions on how I can proceed further?

Hi,

Can anyone sharpen up and clarify this picture, particularly the thatched roof. Apparently thatch styles are local or regional, which makes sense I suppose. Anyway, there's a location on tinternet that might be able to tell me which area it's from. Worth a go don't you think?

Tks MM

Hi,

I have been loaned a selection of photographs by an aged relative which includes this one, which, to me, looks like a gatehouse or lodge of some sort.   :) My relative said that it was a picture of part of the place that her grandfather worked at. Thinking back, she didn't actually say which side of the family she was talking about! :-[

So, one side of the family were based in the Whitewood area of Godstone for many many years so that covers the surrey link.

The other side of the family were based for many years around North Tidworth and Overton in Wiltshire but by 1911 they were at Pewton Mewsey in Hampshire.

Can anyone identify what it is and where it is?

I reckon the photo was taken around 1900 judging by the clothing of the people in the photo.

Thanks in anticipation

Hi there,

Can anyone do anything to improve this photo of Alice Mildred Stevens 1858-1946?

We would be very grateful if you could.

Thanks

Wiltshire / North Tidworth, Overton areas, unknown estate building.
« on: Monday 16 March 15 21:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have been loaned some old photographs. The one attached is alleged to be part of an estate where one of my ancestors worked. It could be part of an estate in the North Tidworth, Overton areas, but there again, it may not. Judging by the clothing I would guess that the photo was taken around 1900.

Any of you sleuths out there recognise it?

Thanks
MM
