Australia / JOHN CORDIAL transportation to Darlinghurst 1854
« on: Friday 13 December 13 21:33 GMT (UK)  »
I have an ancester born in 1826 in Galway, Ireland who would appear to have been transported to Australia around 1854 and to have ended up in Darlinghurst goal NSW.
Are there any prison records online that can shed any light as to his crime and the date of his entrance to Darlinghurst. I think he would have been out of prison as he was in Sydney in 1865 and married a Mary Margaret Carling in 1859 in Newcastle NSW. He died later in New Zealand in 1881

Wicklow / Thomas Dowling, Doolan or Dooling
« on: Thursday 12 December 13 16:08 GMT (UK)  »
I have previously tried to get a birth confirmation for my g. grandfather Thomas Dowling on Roots chat, but without much success. I visited the National archives in Dublin and spent 2 days going through the micro fiches of all the areas around Baltinglass. One of them showing the parish records was almost a blank because the ink had faded completely. I recon this could have been the one with his details
Thomas joined the Irish Constabulary in 1851 and was sponsored by Sub Inspector Thompson at Baltinglass, so I believe he was resident somewhere close to Baltinglass. His daughter Mary Doolan was registered as born in Barraderry 3 Aug 1865.
Thomas served as a constable in Co. Galway until he moved to England.
Any help would be appreciated
Brian

Galway / Marriage Henry Cordial and Elizabeth Fielding in Galway
« on: Monday 09 December 13 16:56 GMT (UK)  »
I have a very brief bit of information gleaned from the army records of Henry Cordial in that he married an Elizabeth Fielding in Galway on 14th February 1821. The record discloses no further information. Would anyone have any clues as to whether they would have been married in a Galway church or if Galway records office would hold further information such as her address etc?

Galway / Henry Cordial ( CARDIAL )
« on: Monday 09 December 13 16:48 GMT (UK)  »
I have located a death for Henry Cardial in Galway in 1875. It is on page 223 Vol 4 FHL film No 101587.
Does anyone know what information I am likely to get on the death certificate for this year if I order it from Galway. Would it have his place of birth, person who reported death?
It says CARDIAL but he was a Cordial so I guess his name was written down incorrectly.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have tried in vain to find a marriage date and place for Hope ( Manning ) Larkin and Means Johnson.
Hope Larkin was married I believe to a doctor possibly called Manning who died in WW2 and then she married Means Johnson who during the war was Captain of a destroyer. He later was an admiral in charge of NATO forces during the 1970's. He was born in Scalater 5 Dec 1916 and she was born 10 Feb 1919 in New York.
They had 2 children.
Any additional information would be greatly appreciated

I have tried to locate a marriage between Sarah Dowling ( often called Vera ) and Sylvesta P Larkin.
This would most likely have been in New York around 1914- 1918. Sarah was born in Liverpool UK in November of 1890 and Sylvester born N.Y. 30 March 1894. They had 2 daughters Hope born 1919 and Shirley born 1920 Fairfield, Conn. and a son
(*) Born probably Fairfield Conn.
Does anyone have a marriage date and place for these?    He became a governor at the New York Stock exchange.

United States of America / Foot Loose William Dowling
« on: Saturday 15 October 11 17:20 BST (UK)  »
William Dowling arrived in the States in 1890 after which he could not seem to stay in one place for very long. He enlisted in the US army and served in the Spanish American war. He next appears in all of the Gold Rush sites in Alaska and California. At this point the family thought he had emigrated to Australia in about 1906, but I have just found him on the 1930 census in Yuba, California aged 57.
To round this thread off I would like to find a death date and place for him. He was born in Liverpool, England in 1873. His parents are Thomas Dowling and Sarah Mary Dowling, both born in Ireland.
Any help would be appreciated.

« on: Friday 27 May 11 17:16 BST (UK)  »
Looking for any evidence of the birth or any other information of Peter Cordial who served with the Rifle Brigade and was station with the army in Llanllwchaiarn, Montgomeryshire, Wales  in the 1841 census. I anticipate he would have been born about 1811 and probably in Co. Longford
