New Zealand Completed Requests / John and Thomas Smith from Arklow to NZ.
« on: Monday 27 November 17 12:03 GMT (UK)  »
For as long as i have been researching my family i have had nothing on two brothers to my GG grandmother an Elizabeth Smith born Scratenagh , Arklow, Co  Wicklow Ireland. DNA results has led me to find the descendant of one which has led to possibly finding more on the other.
The two brothers were Thomas Webster Smith born 16 Jan 1848 at Scratenagh to George and Margaret Smith nee Webster and John Smith born we though around 1846 but it would seem now early 1830's at same place to same parents.

Thomas it would seem from an on line tree on Ancestry , Thomas went on to marry an Eliza Jane York , 14 Mar 1878 at Waitahuna  and went on to have a family of 5. I am waiting to see can i get a reply from owner of tree to verify Thomas and have ordered a marriage to help prove who he is.

It is John Smith although i have found a descendant is vague. From his descendant it was though he had gone straight to NZ where he married an Elizabeth Kinnison but since we have started researching we have found the marriage of John and Elizabeth 17 Feb 1862 in Melbourne Australia.Elizabeth was Scottish born circa 1830 to a John Kinnison and Mary Ireland.

Sometime between 1862 and 1874 John and Elizabeth moved on to NZ where in 1874 a daughter Susan was born at Blue Spur. There was at least one more child known of a Mary. Susan went on to marry a Lionel Edwin Ellison and the family comes forward to their descendant i have found, a grandson.

The only other date i have at present is when Susan died. 25 Sept 1922 in Stirling, Otago NZ.

Even if no more is to be found what i have found may help someone else connect.

Many thanks
John

Down / The Reverend John Levingston.
« on: Friday 18 November 16 19:56 GMT (UK)  »
I have already posted on this man in the Cork forum where I have received great help. While he was born Carlow he would seem to have ministered most of his life in Cork where his family was reared and his first wife is buried.
After he married a second time he would seem to have moved up to Bangor as this is where I have found himself and his second wife May interred in Bangor Abbey Graveyard.
If anyone can shed any light on his time in Bangor I would appreciate.

John.

Cork / Reverend John Levingston.

Has anyone come across anything on the Reverend John Levingstone. While he was born Carlow 1856 from what I can find he lived and ministered most of his life in Cork. He may of started his Ministry at Templemartin , Bandon, moving on to Christ Church , Drinagh where he was involved in the building of the new Church circa 1900. Shortly after the new Church was built he moved on to Carrigtwohill.

Any help much appreciated here.

I would be grateful for any improvement on the attached photo. File size is small to work with but it is the only copy I have . It was only after a photo been restored in the last few days I realised that the man in the middle of this photo is possibly my G grandfather. There are very strong similarities.

Lanarkshire / William Welsh Blackie
« on: Monday 01 April 13 12:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi.

My Great Grandfather William Welsh Blackie was born 7th June 1863 at Longforgan , Pertshire to Thomas Blackie and Janet Smith Welsh. One of a family of nine. William travelled to Ireland and in 1894 married an Elizabeth Parker from Wicklow at the Centenery Church in Dublin. They had one child, my granny Lillian Blackie born 1895 whose mother Elizabeth died shortly after the birth of her.

William returned to Glasgow, Scotland and remarried. In 1898 his second marriage was to a Jessie Ralston Fraser and from this marriage there were two more girls. Amanda born 1899 and Maud born 1900. Amanda married an Archibald Allan from Glasgow in 1928 and Maud married a Robert Gibb in 1923 also from Glasgow.

From what I have been told the families all remained in or around Glasgow and William Blackie who died in 1921 is buried there.

Any help appreciated.

John.

Hi
I am looking for a couple of things if possible. While I would like a clean up and restoration of this picture in whole would it be possible to crop and extract three individuals so that I would have decent photos of them on their own even if it might only be their heads. I have software to crop myself but when I go to enlarge the cropped individual to print I have no quality.

The individuals are . The girl second left of the bride. She has long, lighter coloured hair. She is my granny at 15 and the only picture we have of her at this age.

The other two are the couple to the bottom left of the picture. The man with the bowler hat in his hands and the woman to his right . They are an aunt and uncle of my grannies. The picture is 1910.

Many thanks .

John
