London and Middlesex / Fleet Registers
« on: Saturday 16 October 10 05:50 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Has anyone used these registers?

There is a pay-to-view website in conjunction with the National Archives.  Has anyone used it to purchase credits and view images?

I see on Ancestry and FamilySearch Beta  that a Peter Sandiford married Sarah Clifton 30 Apr 1746 Westminster; source being RG7 - Fleet Registers - William Wyatt, 1745-1747.

I am looking for a Peter Sandiford who consented to the marriage of minor Elizabeth Lloyd Sandiford to John Russell 12 Jul 1773 at St. Bride Fleet Street; Elizabeth being born about 1752.

I am guessing that St. Bride Fleet Street is in the vicinity of where these Fleet Register marriages occurred.

Any information, thoughts, suggestions, etc. appreciated.

Somerset / Visitation of Somerset
« on: Thursday 02 April 09 21:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

A few days ago I found a google digitized book, Visitation of Somerset, which contains a large number of pedigrees.  I am not familiar with these books, are the pedigrees reliable?

I found that my ancestor, Mrs. Maude (Mauncell) Jubbes, d. 1535,  is listed in one of these pedigrees. I have been able to trace back to this lady by use of a number of wills, some of which I have transcribed and posted on my personal website, and the records available on A2A.

Could some one give me a brief background on visitation books?

Thank you,
Susan

Technical Help / Autorun help
« on: Tuesday 05 June 07 23:08 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have purchased a number of great parish register CDs that have an autorun feature.  These CDs bring up a window/image with the group's logo, title of the collection and buttons to proceed, exit, etc.   I am anxious to learn how to create a CD with this autorun capability.

My genealogy society has a project to make digital images of very early area newspapers and put them on a CD to sell.  Since I will be making the CDs I would appreciate any help in learning how to create this autorun inf file and how to create the initial image/window with the logo and options.

Thanks,
Susan

The Common Room / Stationers' Company Apprentices Lookup - RUSSELL
« on: Tuesday 17 April 07 02:47 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have just learned of a book titled "Stationers' Company Apprentices" edited by Donald Francis McKenzie, 1701-1800, published 1978, Dewey number 331.5/5 18.  This book has an index.

I am told that this book is available at many libraries and not just the British Library where I found it in the online catalog.  Would anyone have the time to check their library to see if this book is available?

I am specifically looking for John Charles RUSSELL but would be interested in anyone listed with the surname RUSSELL.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Scotland / James LAMB b. circa 1732 where??
« on: Sunday 25 March 07 03:34 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have just learned something specific about my Scottish ancestor, James Lamb, but possibly not enough to find his county or parish of origin.

He was a member of Capt. John Campbell's Company of 78th Regiment of Foot (Fraser's Highlanders) whose troops were raised in Inverness and departed Glasgow April 1757.  My James Lamb never returned to Scotland.

In July of 1819 James Lamb gave testimony that he was age 87 the previous October  (b. Oct. 1731??).  His obit published 20 March 1830 said he was age 104 (which I doubt).

A great grandson thought they were related to the English poet Charles Lamb but I can't find any reliable source for Charles Lamb's father's parentage.

I would appreciate any suggestions on how I might proceed with this search.  I am not familiar with Scottish research.

Thank you,
Susan

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Burials in & around Beeston - KAY
« on: Monday 19 March 07 21:44 GMT (UK)  »
In the 1841 census of Beeston there is listed Edward KAY age 80, pauper, and wife Hannah, age 75.  Does anyone have access to records of where these two people could be buried during the 1841-1851 time period?

I believe this is the Edward KAY who married Hannah GOODER 11 Sep 1785 at St. Peter's Leeds.

An Edward KAY whose death was listed at Bradford, June 1845, was a different person.

Thank you for any assistance.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Kirkgate -- Beeston
« on: Thursday 21 December 06 23:42 GMT (UK)  »
As I am not familiar with locations in Yorkshire I need to ask if it is likely that an Edward KAY born 1764 Kirkgate and an Edward KAY raising his children and living at Beeston after 1785 could be the same person?  Are Kirkgate and Beeston anywhere near each other?

The Edward KAY I am researching was married at St. Peter's, Leeds and was still living at Beeston at the time of the 1841 census.

Thank you.

Gloucestershire / GABY in Cheltenham or surrounds
« on: Sunday 17 December 06 06:08 GMT (UK)  »
I have recently found the reference that James WILDEY married Susanna GABY in 1803 at Cheltenham.  Has anyone encountered the GABY surname in this area?  It is a surname I haven't seen before.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1841 Look Up Request - Hackney
« on: Friday 17 February 06 22:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

On the death record of my relative, Harriet Elizabeth Wood, the address given was:
Slarkes Cottages Clapton, Hackney

Is that sufficient information to find out who was living there in 1841?  If so I would appreciate knowing who is listed at the address in the 1841 census.

Harriet died in early 1848; was a widow and may have been living with relatives of a different surname.

Thank you,
Susan
