I am in USA Montana. I don't have the money to hire a researcher, but I would understand if no one wants to do it for nothing.
Here is my request if someone is going there anyway and would not mind, to search for a record for me. I got this message from Fife Archive Central regarding this request. Margaret Gibson died in the Fife District Asylum. She was born 1836 Sometime during 1891 or after she went to the Asylum and died there Sept 25, 1917. What I am looking for is the reason she was there. If any information is in there regarding the name Whitehead, or Marshall, Gibson or Gilmour relatives. Her mothers name was Margaret Whitehead, Father Robert Marshall of Leslie Fife. There is another record there at the Archives regarding Margaret's Father Robert Marshall ref number his is a draft index to Summary Trials minute book, 16 October 1834-1839 (our ref QS/1/5/1) From being accused of trying to act as an Auctioneer. I really need his Month and day of Birth. He was born 1806 or 1807 I have done everything I can think of to trace his family, to no avail. He was very poor and probably did not have a burial marker. But he died in 1851 pathhead. I am hoping this record at least has a date of birth, which is probably not likely, but worth a try. I would gladly pay any copy fee's if you can help me. Here is what the office of the Fife Archive office said regarding my 4th great grandma:
Yes we have patient records for the Fife and Kinross District Asylum. You can see a list at
www.fifedirect.org.uk In the home page search for archive catalogue.
(Please note that you cannot access the records themselves online).
Her case notes should be in a volume described as 'Case notes for female patients who died between 1916 and 31 December 1926, with Post Mortem reports'.(our ref H/STR/5/2/1).
She should also appear in other records like the general register, the register of deaths at the hospital, and there is usually an order authorising a patient's admission to the hospital.
As her records are more than 75 years old they are on open access. If you are planning a trip to Scotland you can make an appointment to visit the Archive Centre.
Thank you.
