Sussex / Crundell/Searle - Brighton
« on: Saturday 11 February 12 11:39 GMT (UK)  »
Morning Rootschatters!

Is anyone able to help me please with further details of the marriage in Brighton (Oct-Dec 1850) of Walter Crundell to Lucy Searle.  By this time Lucy had 3 daughters:
Mary Ann (1834) Emmeline Harriett (1837) and Agnes (1839).  Evidently their father was a Thomas Searle.

Can't find Lucy & daughters in 1841 and am trying to find whether she was married to a Thomas Searle prior to her marriage to Walter Crundell.

I think Lucy may have been born in 1812 in Amberley, Sussex

Many thanks - Dazey999

Europe / Heinrich Robert VOIGT - Hanover, Germany
« on: Tuesday 06 December 11 10:34 GMT (UK)  »
Good Morning  :)

Can anyone advise how I might find out more about the family/descendants of Heinrich Robert Voigt.  I've found the following details on www.familysearch.org:

Heinrich Robert Voigt (son of Carl Elias Voigt & Susanne Erdmuthe Schneider)
married Kathleen Elizabeth Heaton (dtr of Alfred John Heaton & Hannah nee Summers of Bolton, England)
29 Mar 1894 Hanover, Prussia, Germany

Sons:
Alfred Carl Robert Voigt 21 July 1894 Hanover
Hans Valerio Heaton Voigt 1 Feb 1896 Hanover

2 of Kathleen's sisters immigrated from Bolton to Australia, and another remained (unmarried) in England.  Kathleen is a bit of a mystery!

Many thanks   Dazey

Ireland / Fitzgerald - b. 6 Feb 1855 - Bantry
« on: Monday 20 June 11 17:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi there

Whilst Gerald Fitzgerald was curate at the Church of Ireland church in Bantry, County Tyrone, his wife (Mary nee Beatty) gave birth to a son on 6 Feb 1855.  Very soon after that he moved to Kilscoran and ended up as Vicar of St Mullins (1861-72).  Is there anyway I can find out this son's name?  Their daughter (Geraldine) was born in 1859 in Kilscoran, and she died in St Mullins 1867.

Thanks in advance

Dazey

Devon / FITZGERALD - Plymouth deaths/burials
« on: Sunday 12 June 11 22:03 BST (UK)  »
A bit of a longshot..but she who dares and all that...

I am looking for any newspaper reports or burial details for the following ancestors:

Henry Charles Fitzgerald - died 1 Dec 1882, 3 Wedgwood Villas, Ford Park, Compton Gifford, Plymouth
Sophia Mary Fitzgerald - died 20 May 1883, Ham House, Pennycross
Cuthbert Henry Fitzgerald - died 23 Nov 1890 - Royal Hotel, Devonport

The family had a strong link with St Pancras Church at Pennycross.

Henry Charles Fitzgerald married his first wife on 25 June 1861 at St Andrews, Plymouth, but she died a year later following the birth of their son (Cuthbert Henry)

I know that HCF remarried to Sophia Mary Trelawny Collins in 1868 - but not sure which church in Plymouth.

If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

Many thanks

Dazey

Australia / SANDS, Geoffrey

Wonder if anyone can help a gentleman in Eastbourne, Sussex whose letter appears in the Eastbourne Herald (22 Apr 11):

While researching my family history I found the following letter in the Eastbourne Gazette published on 20 June 1945:  "Mr & Mrs James Sands of 144 Ashford Road are delighted to have their nephew Geoffrey Sands with them after being a prisoner of war in Austria for over four years.  Geoffrey's home is in southern Australia.  His father was born in Eastbourne, and left here 30 years ago when only 15 years of age, he joined the Australian Army and was lucky enough to come to England in 1918 before going back to Australia.  He has 2 other sons in the Army, 1 in the Navy and he himself is in the Australian home defence.  Geoffrey is 25 years of age".  Can any reader help me by telling me who Geoffrey's father was?

I'm happy to pass on any useful information.   Dazey

Northamptonshire / John Pickett - Brackley - born c.1806
« on: Sunday 22 August 10 09:39 BST (UK)  »
I've been lucky enough to trace my 3xg-grandfather, JOHN PICKETT, throughout his life...all except his birth.

On every single record he has given his place of birth as BRACKLEY 1806.  His father was THOMAS PICKETT - a farmer.  I can't find any trace of his birth/christening.

Am wondering if his surname was originally PRICKETT as that seems more common in Northants at that time.  Can anyone help please?

Many thanks, Dazey

Can anyone help please?  This photo is of 240 South Terrace, Fremantle, where my g-grandparents (Edward & Alice Pickett) lived 1906-1918ish.  My cousin in W Australia is keen to find out if the house is still there or, if not, where it once stood.  Any ideas please?  Thanks, Dazey

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / 1851 census..born...where?
« on: Tuesday 03 August 10 22:04 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can help me with this one please.

My gg-grandfather was Charles Barnett.  He married Rachel Harvey in 1852 in Norbiton.  In the 1861 census they are in Croydon, Surrey, and he's recorded as having been born c.1805 "board of apollo frigate - at sea?"

He was an excavator and I'm sure I've found him in 1851 in Surbiton, Surrey boarding at an Inn at "Seething Wells" which at the time was the site of a new waterworks.
His marriage certificate (1852) gives his age as 34..so born 1818.  I know his age looks like 13 - but I'm hoping that's a mistake.  Can anyone make out his place of birth please?  The Apollo was built at Portsmouth and I think his father (James) would have been working on it in dock - rather than a crew member..but who knows!!  Any help will be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance - Dazey
