I wonder if anyone could help with locating the memorial inscription for my great great aunts grave at All Saints, Salterhebble? Her name is Annie Marion Hirst and she died in January 1918, being buried there on January the 12th. She is buried with her husband, William Thomas Hirst, who died in 1952. I have what I believe to be the grave number which is 583.

A very happy new year to everyone & many thanks!

All good wishes,
Sarah

Lanarkshire / Michael John Purcill born Glasgow 1816
« on: Tuesday 03 July 12 23:04 BST (UK)  »
My great great grandfather, Michael John Purcill was born in "Glasgow, Lanarkshire" in 1816 (or thereabouts!) according to census returns.

However, the first official record I can find for him is his marriage to my great great grandmother in Laois, Ireland in 1834. I have been unable to find any trace of him before this and the only information I have regarding his parents is from the certificate for his second marriage which lists his father as "John Percy". Michael John had dropped the Michael and changed his surname to Percy by this time so suspect his father may not have been just John either.

If anyone has ever located any records pertaining to a family in the area with a son called Michael John Purcill at this time I'd love to hear from you! It has been a puzzle that I have been trying to solve for many, many years and feel like I'm running out of places to look for him in the hopes of being able to find my 3x great grandparents!

Many thanks!
Sarah

Laois (Queens) / Dunne/Dunn family in Kilcotton
« on: Tuesday 03 July 12 17:42 BST (UK)  »
My great great grandmother, Anne Dunne (possibly Dunn) was born in Kilcotton in, according to census/death records, 1821. This date is perhaps somewhat flexible though as she married my great great grandfather, Michael John Purcill in Aghaboe parish on 27th November 1834.

One of the witnesses at their wedding was a William Dunne (Anne's father or brother?) and in the 1826 Tithe Applotments there is a Thomas Dunne (again, could be her father). Aside from the Dunne family who lived in Kilcotton in the latter half of the 1800s and whom I hope one day to make a connection with, William and Thomas are the only Dunnes I have been able to trace as being there at the same time as my great great grandmother. There are quite a number of Dunnes on the rootsireland website that may be listed as from Kilcotton but as I'm sure everyone knows going through them is a slow and expensive process so I thought I would ask if anyone had already found any information on Dunnes in Kilcotton on their family history travels! In fact, I would be grateful for any information about Kilcotton/Aghaboe villages at all from the first half of the 1800s!

With very many thanks,
Sarah

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Can these pink photographs be restored?

I wonder if anything can be done to improve these two photographs of my grandmother's cousin (the lady in the hat in both pictures!), who meant a lot to her. I would be most grateful for anything at all that could be done with them!

Laois (Queens) / Was it possible to get married in Laois at age 13 in 1834?
« on: Friday 17 September 10 00:08 BST (UK)  »
The title says it all really! My great great grandmother, Anne Dunne, was born about 1821 but she married my great great grandfather, Michael Purcill, in the parish of Aghaboe, Co. Laois, on the 27th of November 1834. This would have made her 13 years old, her husband 16. Was this a regular occurance at the time or indeed was it possible to marry at that age, or is it more likely that her age isn't accurate on any of the records I have for her, including her death certificate and the report of the inquest?!

Many thanks,
Sarah

My cousin says she's scanned these at 600dpi for me so I'm reposting in the hope that the higher resolution means someone might be able to do something with them! Actually the second one isn't the one I asked her to do, it's new, but it looks interesting! I know they're a mess but both my cousin and I would love any improvement, however slight, that could be made to them!

All good wishes,
Sarah

Is this photograph salvagable? I believe it is the step son and son, Thomas and Alf, of my great grandfathers cousin and was taken during the first world war. They are two people who, of late, have come to be quite a big part in my life and I would be so pleased if anything could be done with this photograph!

Many thanks as always,

All good wishes,
Sarah

Is there anyone out there who could improve this photograph of my great grandparents, William and Ella Louise on their wedding day in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1897? This is actually my second attempt as I posted it on a thread together with another photograph which got most of the attention!

Many thanks in advance!

All good wishes,
Sarah

Does anyone know anything about Halifax baptisms for the 1700's? I am looking for the baptism for my 5x great grandmother. Her name was Mary Mansley and she  was unmarried when she had a son, my 4x great grandfather, James Mansley, who was baptised in Halifax in 1774. I have tried the familysearch site and many other avenues but to no avail so anything anyone could come up with would be so helpful.

In truth any bmd parish record information for Mansley's in Halifax in the 1700's would be incredibly helpful to me in being able to make connections to the Mansley's I already have.

Many many thanks in advance for any help or advice!
Best wishes,
Sarah
