Fermanagh / Merin Foster/Forster 33rd Reg’t of foot
« on: Monday 31 August 20 00:56 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have any knowledge regarding regiments that were garrisoned or recruiting in the South Fermanagh area about 1790.
The reason being that Mervin Foster/Forster b.ABT 1770 at Coolnasillagh,Rathmoran may have enlisted roundabout 1790. Hoping that if I could see his attestation papers I might be able to follow his service history.
Mervin is mentioned on the Registry of Deeds (Ireland). Mem’l No 451054 on a lease of property for his Heir and Offsprings dated 7Dec.1812. On the deed he is referred to as Mervin Forster ‘Esquire’ of the 33rd Regiment of Foot.
Definition: ESQUIRE Persons who are so styled under the Royal Sign Manual (Officers of the armed forces of or above the rank of Captain in the Army)
I think it is possible that Mervin may have died between 1812 - 1815 because the property which he leased for is Heir and Offsprings was reconveyed to his brothers, Malcolm and John.
I expect it is likely that Mervin Enlisted with some other regiment before he joined the 33rd of foot.
Grateful for any advice or assistance if possible.

Tyrone / Stewart’s of Corrigan / Killymoon
« on: Friday 21 February 20 23:04 GMT (UK)  »
Is anyone aware of any available records concerning Jane Stewart, eldest dau.of Captain James Stewart of Killymoon.
Jane Md. James Forster of Rathmoran ABT.1720 and he was subsequently referred to as James Stewart alias Forster. I expect they would have wed at the brides p/h church.
I don’t know if they had any children.
There is a deed of lease/release of lands in the manor of Corrigan - Mem’l No.58076 - Reg’d Feb 1735 which describes Jane as ‘Jane Forster alias Stewart, widow.Eldest dau.of Cap’n James Stewart, late of Killymoon’.
Is there any record of the death/burial of her husband ‘James Forster alias Stewart’.
Any input much appreciated.

Tyrone / James Stewart alias Forster of Rathmoran, Co Fermanagh
« on: Tuesday 06 March 18 01:16 GMT (UK)  »
He is mentioned in a PRONI document. T/700  dated 3Jan1721 concerning Capt.James Stewart of Killymoon, Co Tyrone. It names his issue living  and his eldest daughter Jane is married to James Stewart alias Forster, Gent. who has taken the name of Stewart  etc.
Another document which is a deed of conveyance Memorial No.27326 dated 11Dec1724 where Capt.James Stewartof killymoon leases to James Stewart alias Forster of Rathmoran,Gent. premises in Drummuck,Manor of Corrigan, Co Tyrone.  etc.      Witnessed by his father John Forster of Rathmoran,Gent.
In Aghalurcher graveyard not far from Rathmoran there is a tombstone erected by John Forster of Rathmoran in memory of his beloved father James Foster who was killed in his majesties service King William 1689 (possibly died at the Battle of N.T.Butler).
I believe that John who erected this gravestone could be the same John Forster of Rathmoran who witnessed the earlier mentioned deed of conveyance. Also James Stewart alias Forster of Rathmoran was grandson of the James interred.
I may be wrong but I was hoping the Stewart’s of Killymoon may have other dusty doc’s that could be relevant . Is there anyone out there who could shed more light on this Tyrone connection please ?
John Forster.

Fermanagh / coolnasilly - coolnasillagh ?
« on: Friday 26 October 12 20:58 BST (UK)  »
i have recently found a record in the registry of deeds which i suspect could refer to my gt gt g/parents 'Malcolm Foster and Elizabeth Arnott' [married 3/7/1792 at clones].
i think i need the opinion of someone who has a local knowledge of the surrounding area of Newtown Butler [in case i'm barking up the wrong tree].
the lease, registered 27/1/1816 was for 3/4 of Dernabackey, for the lives of :
Malcolm Foster, gent of Coolnasilly, p/o Drumsilly, co Fermanagh
               [wife] Elizabeth
               [son]  John           age 15
               [dau]  Sarah         age 13
                also   John,   resident of Rathmorgan
               [son]  Nethaniel    age 18

i was wondering if Coolnasilly, p/o Drumsilly  could be  Coolnasillagh, Drumsillagh.
and   Rathmorgan  could be  Rathmoran.
or is it perhaps another family in another part of Ireland ?

is it likely that additional usefull info would be on a copy of the origional lease ?

Fermanagh / Curate John M Graydon?? Forster/Foster
« on: Tuesday 15 November 11 23:40 GMT (UK)  »
Would anybody be able to advise me as to which church the curate John M Graydon would have served at?
I have been researching my family history for the last 2 years and I have struggled to locate my ancestors in Ireland. I think i have finally located them in the parish of galloon and have found several births on the galloon parish register 1830-1844. The parents are Robert b.1810??? and Alice Foster b.1810?? and the children that were baptised are:
John 1836
William 1837
Robert 1840
Elizabeth 1844.
Also we know they had another son Joseph born 1848 and wish to find evidence in a birth register if one has survived.
It would be likely that the parents were married at this church yet we cannot find them on the parish marriage register on the fermanagh gold site. i also do not know the maiden name of Alice, this would be incredibly helpful if anybody knows how i can find this out??

Any help appreciated

Thanks
John

Lancashire Lookup Requests / RAWES/SWINDELL merseyside area
« on: Monday 06 December 10 23:33 GMT (UK)  »
i would love to know if anyone recognises my FORSTER connection with their RAWES or SWINDELL family tree. i have not been able to trace any decendants of my fathers brothers or sisters [who have died long since]. however, according to the 1901 and 1911 census my grandparents adopted a child named GWENNIE WYNNE.
in 1920 GWENNIE was married at st andrews, bootle to GEORGE SWINDELL
on the 4th nov 1920 they had a daughter JOAN. their address was 3 verdi avenue, seaforth.
i believe JOAN married a JOHN R. RAWES who died 1987 in liverpool.
as far as i know JOAN may still be alive and she would certainly have had contact with my grandparents whilst she was a child. it is possible that she may be able to enlighten me on some family background or photos to copy.     a bit of a pipedream, but you never know.

Denbighshire / Bryn Carrog Farm Rhuddlan
« on: Tuesday 18 May 10 23:36 BST (UK)  »
I have been researching my Forster/Hughes family history and think i may have traced back to Bryn Carrog Farm, Rhuddlan.
May have found possible marriage - Thomas Hughes b.1821 to Elizabeth (possibly Rowlands) b. 1831, married St Cynderyn, st asaph 1853.
Any knowledge, help or advice on my next steps would be grately appreciated.
