Europe / SOS on missing Woodhouse family, possibly traveled abroad to Italy in 1909.
« on: Friday 14 January 11 07:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hoping someone might be able to shed some light on a missing family I have in 1911.  Fred and Maggie (Margaret) Woodhouse.

Details of the family are below.
Frederick Charles Woodhouse 1883 born Hackford, Norfolk KIA 5th Nov 1917 Egypt.
Margaret (Maggie) Woodhouse (nee Pieraccini) 1883 Luton, Bedfordshire - 1952 Rugby, Warwickshire.

Married 1904 Luton, Bedfordshire.

I believe Frederick was a Horse Trainer.

Children

Frederick Charles jnr 1906 Bedfordshire

Nelson Dennis 1907 Bedfordshire

Maggie or Margaret ? no information, possibly born abroad.

Arthur P 1912 Luton

Robert S N 1914 Luton

Constance Elizabeth 1915 - 1976 Rugby, Warwickshire.

Reginald C C 1919 - 1975 Rugby. Maggie's son, father unknown.

It is possible that Fred and Maggie travelled to Naples Italy on the Omrah 19 Feb 1909 with their two sons Fred and Nelson, this is what I am trying to confirm and if so when did they return, as their 3rd son was born back in Luton in 1912.  So between the birth of their second son in 1907 till 1912, I have lost them and also cannot find a birth for Maggie (possibly born Margaret) their daughter in the UK.  I do know she exists, as I have pictures of her, but no other details.  Could she have been born in Italy?  If in fact the family did travel there.

I have not been able to locate the Woodhouse family living in the UK on the 1911 census and had put out an SOS in the English Chat room, and they have steered me to here in the hope we might find something to help us.

Margaret (Maggie) Woodhouse was born a Pieraccini.  Her grandfather Pietro Pieraccini (Pierachini) looks to have immigrated to the UK prior to 1829.

Pietro Pierachini was born Tuscany Italy 1807.  Father's name was Giacomo Pierachini as per marriage certificate.  I have no other information of the family prior to Pietro moving to the UK.  Would dearly love to find out any information as possible of the Pieraccini/Pierachini family if anyone has any information.
Pietro was a wonderful sculptor, plasterer, modeller and many of his busts are apparently still in the UK.  Although as I do not live in the UK, am unable to actually find or confirm where the bust are now.  One is believe to be Queen Victoria 1838.  I do have a list and where they are apparently displayed if anyone is interested or could help with letting me know if they are actually still there.

I believe that most of Pietro's children and then their children followed in his footsteps and were part of the massive recovery and restoration of London and surrounding areas that were bombed in the war.

Hoping for any information.

Thank you

Vanessa.

Bedfordshire / I have lost a family in 1911 - Woodhouse.
« on: Wednesday 12 January 11 01:39 GMT (UK)  »
I am currently researching my ancestors and have come to a brick wall in the 1911 census records for the Woodhouse family,  if anyone has any knowledge if they may have moved from bedfordshire to possibly Scotland or Wales, or anywhere else, would love to hear from you.   Or if you are a descendant of the family and have any information, would love to hear from you as well.

Going by the childrens birth dates, there were some prior to 1911 and some after born in the Luton area, but they are definitely not on any 1911 census records in England.

Hardest family to search for has been my Great Grandmother Isabella Mathieson.  I went on a completely wrong tangent of finding her only to get her marriage certificate and find out I had the wrong Isabella.

For the life of me on every single site I can find, I can not find when her and her parents immigrated to Australia.  I believe it is between the end of 1886 and 1888... but definitely before 1904. I have tried all spellings, but nothing. As it is stated on her marriage certificate she was born Aberdeen Scotland, then it means that they definitely did not immigrate till after her birth in 1886.

If anyone has any information, please message me.  Thanks.

Below is what details I do know and possible other bits.

Isabella (Hardie) Mathieson B:25 April 1886 in St Nicholas, Aberdeen City, Aberdeen Scotland
D:11 Feb 1974 in Dee Why, New South Wales (Domestic Servant at time of marriage)
M: 7 Mar 1904 to James Rawlings - (Seaman at time of marriage) at The Centenary Hall, York Street. Sydney.
Both families were living around the Millers Point area (McMahons Point now) North Sydney District.
Both familes the fathers, were Labourers/Coal Lumpers.

Possible parents are as per marriage certificate.  William Mathieson. Coal Lumper and Mary Allan (whom is listen on their marriage certificate as actually being Mary Hardie and not Allan as listed on Isabella's marriage cert).

William Mathieson married Mary Hardie at 15 Ann Street, Aberdeen on the 22nd Sept 1883.  I have not found any other children prior to Isabella's birth in 1886, but I am sure there would be some.  Later when in Sydney, I think they may have had a further 4 children, but not entirely sure they are connected.

William 1888
Walter Charles Charmer 1892
Elizabeth 1896
Laura E M A 1902-1902

I do not know if they immigrated straight to New South Wales or to another Australian state first, but can not find any coming to Australia at all with their names or variations of it.

Mary looks like she was the illegitimate  daughter of Isabella Hardie born around 1865. And possibly Isabella's parents were George Hardie and Mary Kennedy, she being born approx 1844.

The entire family does seem to come from the Aberdeen Area, but it is hard to find much information, especially immigration.

Any help whatsoever will be appreciated... and yes I have looked through Scotlands People for most of my information, but it doesn't always seem to connect everyone.

Scotland / Matheson family of Scotland.
« on: Thursday 25 November 10 16:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I am hoping that perhaps someone might be able to help with some family information on Matheson. (Misspelling sometimes of Mathieson).

My Great Grandmother was Isabella Matheson born 6th April 1874 in Morven, Argll, Scotland.

She along with her parents and siblings immigrated from the Port of London, to Sydney Australia on the Garonne in September of 1878.

Isabella's father was Alexander born 1842 in Kilmur, Inverness, Scotland

(Alexander's parents are possibly Norman Matheson 1791 - 1854 Born Kilmuir Invernessshire and dying in Isle of Skye, Invernessshire, Scotland. Mother possibly being Margaret McKenzie born 1803 in Kilmuir, Invernessshire and death maybe 1871).
(Alexander's siblings possibly being: Donald 1828. Anne 1833. Margaret 1835. Catherine 1839.
(Possibly working a family farm at Bornesketaig prior to immigrating).

Isabella's mother was Margaret, no other information known

Issabella's siblings were:

Christian 1876

Annabella 1877

Isabella died just before her 100th birthday, in Dee Why, New South Wales, Australia.

She married James Rawlings in 1904 in Sydney and their children were:

Mary E / Marie E Rawlings 1904 - 1904

Lilian Alice Rawlings 1907 - 1964

Gladys Amelia Rawlings 1909 - 1964

and twins

George 1914 - ? and James Alexander Rawlings 1914 - 1992

Any information anyone has will be gladly appreciated.

Thank you

Europe / Pietro Pierachini / Pieraccini. Tuscany Italy born abt 1807
« on: Monday 02 August 10 03:33 BST (UK)  »
Actually looking for information on Pietro's father - Giacomo Pierachini.  Farmer/Gardener. Italy.

Unfortunately the last name has been constantly misspelt for generations, so accuracy regarding the proper spelling is hard.  However on the documents of Pietro and Giacomo they both read as Pierachini.

Quite possibly Giacomo might have come to visit Pietro to see his grand children in 1837, from Pietro's first marriage to Margaret Brady.

Document I found:

Giacomo Perusini  ??? Could this be misspelt again, and actually be Pierachini.
Port of Arrival: London, England
Arrival Date: 13 Apr 1837
Country of Origin/Native of: Italy
Class: HO 2
Certificate Number: 1560

If anyone could give me any information on Giacomo, I would appreciate it.  I would estimate his birth in Italy would be around 1770 to to 1790.

Thanks.
