« on: Sunday 03 February 13 14:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,
I have recently viewed the latest VR for 1905. What I don't understand is why on one page my relative appears as a tennant and on another page (Same address) he appears as a proprieter?

Can anyone explain this to me in plain simple English or Scottish language!!!

Aberdeenshire / Searching for the boat and a clock
« on: Wednesday 12 September 12 14:51 BST (UK)  »
My grandfather John B McLean who was living at 13c Lodge walk, Peterhead, where he died Jan 1956. In his living room at that address was a Grandfather clock and he also had a boat called the "Lizzy". I am led to believe that the boat was left to one of his brothers Peter McLean. Is there any member of his family who can verify what happened to the boat? Another brother Colin, I believe may of had the grandfather clock, is there anyone in the family that can verify this info?
The reason for this information is that I am John B McLean's youngest grandson and I am doing the family tree.

I am trying to establish what happened, if anything to 39 High street.

Scotland / McLean family tree
« on: Tuesday 21 August 12 09:11 BST (UK)  »
Help……!!!!

Has anyone completed the McLean family tree???? Flexible on variation of surname.

I am stuck on the lives of John McLean and Mary McKenzie

I believe John was born between 1780 – 1785 or 1790 – 1795 uncertain of location, Mary was born about 1795/96 could be Barnyards, Beauly

It’s possible they married in the Parish of Urray, Ross & Crom 1821

The 1841 census shows them living in Peterhead, with a 10 year age gap for John & Mary

By 1851 Mary was a widow and shows her birthplace as Inverness-shire

John died 1847/8 aged 67 in Peterhead, his occupation was a Flesher/Butcher

I have gathered a list of McLeans buried in St Peters Churchyard, Peterhead, through Deceased Online. Also on the site I came across William McLean & Brothers, Baker (Occupation), who appear to own plots D307 – 309, Who is he? Is he related to John McLean, i.e. Brother or Father??

Where did this branch of the McLeans come from? I am hoping there might be a link to the Isle of Coll

Out of interest does anyone have any pictures of cemetery mentioned, especially plots D307 – 309.

Argyllshire / Campbeltown research
« on: Tuesday 10 May 11 12:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for anyone researching the McLean family in Campbeltown.

Four of my grandfather's siblings moved to Campbeltown from Peterhead.

I am hoping to go to Campbeltown sometime in the summer and it would be nice to meet up with possible relatives, or anyone that may know the McLean family.

The McLean's that moved there are;
Alexander McLean married Elsie Cameron
Donald McLean married Elizabeth McGregor Gilchrist and later Rosetta F Cameron
Eliza Jane McLean married William Gilchrist McDonald
William James McLean married Ann Houston O'may

Aberdeenshire / Missing death.....
« on: Saturday 07 May 11 11:05 BST (UK)  »
Hope someone can help with suggestions!!!!!!

Colin McLean born 1861 in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, he married in 1882 to Isabella Strachan in Boddam. He appears on the 1891 census living in Peterhead, with his wife and bro-in-law. By 1901 I can only find Isabella living in Peterhead with Robert Bailey Bruce (Nephew). She is listed as wife, not widowed, Isabella dies 1907 in Peterhead, still married to Colin McLean. The informant on her death certificate was George Bruce (Uncle).
I feel I have searched everywhere for Colin, but found nothing on his death.

Can anyone help????? As a fisherman, could he have been lost at sea? Would a death certificate still be issued without a body???

Aberdeenshire / Peterhead streets
« on: Monday 11 April 11 15:00 BST (UK)  »
Here's a question for all you Scots out there.....

Does anyone have any old photos of Peterhead? Especially in the area of James St, I'm more curious about number 11 and where in the street it was located. Was it a normal family house with a front and back door?

Occupation Interests / RNLI wages
« on: Friday 11 March 11 10:22 GMT (UK)  »
John Buchan McLean was my grandfather who died a year before l was born, was appointed Coxswain of Peterhead lifeboat          "Julia Park Barry" from July 1937 to December 1954. I do remember my mother telling me that my grandfather would only take on the role as Peterhead's Coxswain if he was paid a wage. I know that this wasn't normally common practice. But during the 17 years that he was Coxswain he didn't have any other employments. My query is what sort of a wages would R.N.L.I  paid him?
