The Common Room / Can anyone read latin?
« on: Monday 05 May 14 23:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone help me with my GGrandmothers baptism record? For some reason there is some writing in latin on the register (it's a catholic baptism) The first part is crossed out but the second seems to refer to her marriage to George Douglas in 1916, what really interests me is the crossed out part as the wording is the same as the second and if it is then it refers to a marriage noone knew about and may point towards my grandfathers unknown father (it is dated Feb 1911 & he was born in Jul). None of the other entries on the page have notations like this so it is a bit of a mystery as to why it's there.

All help is much appreciated.

World War Two / Help with war record please
« on: Sunday 27 April 14 23:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I have just received my grandfathers war records and would like a little help deciphering them. The MOD sent a list of abbreviations but these are not on them

x (ii) list & x(iv) list
No 1 I.B.D.
No 1 C.R.U. /5 corps
granted S.P.P.
I.R.T.D. (or I.R.I.D)

I know he was wounded but there is no mention of what the wound was, it just states that he was transfered to a casualty clearing station then onto a general hospital. Is there anywhere I can find this information?

Thanks in advance for any help

The Lighter Side / Finding a recent death
« on: Friday 01 October 10 21:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me....I am trying to find out if my auntie has died. Her and my father lost touch for over 20 years but I found her and reunited them a couple of years ago and he has stayed in touch since by the occasional phone call, letter and the very occasional visit. We have now been trying to contact her for around 3 months but her phone is cut off, there is no reply to letters and her house is empty!

Does anyone know how I can discover if she has died? I have tried the local papers for an obit but to no avail, according to 192.com she was on the electoral role last year but of course this years isn't done yet.

Any help is much appreciated

Warwickshire / 1861 Census
« on: Saturday 09 May 09 11:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

Could anyone please help me find my ancestor in 1861? John Blackford was born in 1859 to David & Ellen Blackford, David died in 1860 and I can't find Ellen & John on the 1861 census.
Their details are:
John Blackford born in Stratford on Avon in 1859
Ellen Blackford nee Goldby born in Charlecote in 1835/6

I have tried removing fornames, surnames, ages and even places of birth and can't find them. I have looked with the relatives that I can find and still nothing!

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi,

Does anyone have Dwelly's Transcripts Vols 1 & 2 on Cd's that they would be willing to sell/loan me? I have volunteered to transcribe for freereg and thought I would ask on here before I bought one from S & N Genealogy.

Thanks
Ange :)

Have bought some from anguline.co.uk cheaper than S & N, thanks Guy ;D

Lancashire Completed Lookup Requests / Help finding Alfred - Completed
« on: Friday 17 April 09 21:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I have a marriage certificate for Alfred Daniels who married Margaret Sharp on 27th December 1919 at St Lukes in Walton, on this cert he is 22 years old and his father is Henry John Daniels a Tent Maker. I have been unable to find an Alfred born 1897ish with a father Henry on either the 1901 or 1911. I have even looked up his address off the cert on the 1911 but they are not there.

I do not know where Alfred was born or if he has any siblings. Can anyone help?

Thanks
Ange
