Mayo / tracking down birth and wedding cert
« on: Thursday 24 May 12 13:57 BST (UK)  »
In August both myself and husband are going over to Ireland.  I am hoping while I am over there to look for my great grandad's birth record and his parents wedding cert.
I have been able to get all my Great grandads brothers and sisters, off the internet  but not James Patrick Durkan  (greatgrandad)  They were all born in Meelick, Swineford, Co Mayo.

Could you please tell me where I will have to visit to check the records for the years 1862 (wedding year)  and 1862 to 1868  (birth year).  also would I have to book an appointment to go and search.

Thanking you.

Armed Forces / salford pals
« on: Saturday 10 December 11 15:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everybody,
I am trying to help a friend to get some information on her grandad  "Joseph Shaw"
from Salford . She thinks he may have been in The Salford Pals. He was born in 1898 Salford.
He was in WWI and received injures, shoot in the head, which shrapnel was left there , and it bothered him all his life. My friend unfortunately does not know his army number.
She has the 1911 census with Joseph begin 13 years old , living at 4 Hamilton st Pendleton Salford with his brothers and sisters ,mum and dad. And I am afraid that is all she knows.

Will be grateful  of any help with this.

Hi,
I would like  if someone could suggest how I go about finding records of a football player ( my 2x great uncle) On turning up his orbitrary of 1940, it states ,  "In his younger days he was a footballer
of considerable local repute and played for Chester F C , Wrexham F C. and Westminster Rovers  F C.
He also assisted Wales at Cardiff against the Canadians on their first visit to Wales."
My ancesters name was Michael Cafferky, and states his age has 70 on his death. I would be gratefull of any help with this.  Thank you .

Armed Forces / medals
« on: Wednesday 23 November 11 13:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
my grandad was in The Royal  Engineers (tunnelling co.) I have found out by the Internet that he received three medals, and have found out today on Ancestry that he also got the silver war badge.
He died in 1918 through injuries.  I have no idea where  his medals went ,but would like to ask if there is a site on the Internet ,where at least I may be able to see what the medals looked like that he would have had.
Thanking you for any help you can give me.
