Essex / Harridges to Ceylon
« on: Tuesday 16 November 10 21:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to track down some information regarding a Harridge travelling from Essex (Canvey Island area I think) to Ceylon in the early 1800s I believe. I have some sketchy information about a Peter Harridge belonging to the 19th Regiment Light Dragoons and being stationed in Ceylon in 1812 but this is unconfirmed.

There is alot of information regarding Crisp M Harridge and family but I'm not sure if the person I'm looking for is releated somehow.

Essentially I'm looking for the ancestors of W(illiam?) Harridge (married Emma in Ceylon) who then had Edgar Clarence Harridge. Edgar's daughter Iris was then born in 1914.

I do have contacts in Sri Lanka but still it's proving difficult to make a match.

Hope someone can help.

Nathan.

West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / Ann Terrace, Grangepans, Bo'ness
« on: Tuesday 24 August 10 12:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I've got some ancestors who lived in Ann Terrace, Grangepans (or Bridgeness), Bo'ness in the late 1800s and early 1900s. I have found very few references to this location now and I assume it was swallowed up by an industrial estate or similar?

Does anyone know this street and if it still exists today?

Many thanks,

Nathan.

I know that this is already enough info to satisfy most but what I'm particularly interested in is how long she was in Canada for at the time she was married. Was this recorded on Canadian marriage records back in 1914?

Many thanks,

Nathan.

England / When was 1911 Census conducted?
« on: Wednesday 21 July 10 00:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone clarify when the 1911 census was conducted? I'm trying to narrow down some shipping records from the UK around 1910-1912 and was wondering when (what months in 1911) the census information would have been filled out?

Many thanks,

Nathaa

Canada / Striethorsts in Nanaimo and Vancouver
« on: Monday 19 July 10 03:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

My first cousin twice removed was a Raymond Conrad Striethorst born BC. His father was Henry/Harry Striethorst and his uncle was William Striethorst.

I'm currently researching the brothers William and Henry. I have located them on the 1901 Census here - http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/SurnameList.jsp?surname=striethorst&districtId=3&desc=Search+province+of+British+Columbia+in+the+1901+Census+of+Canada+records+for+surname&Go=Go

and also the marriages here - http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-198EA00/query/Marriages/find-adv%2B%20surname%3D%28striethorst%29%20%2B%2B%2B%2B

Nellie Anderson who married Henry/Harry is my great grand aunt.

Now, according to the BCarchives marriage records, William Striethorst married Amy Dwyer in 1920.

I stumbled upon these records only today saying that he married Eliza Wilkinson.

Father William: http://www.geni.com/genealogy/people/William-Striethorst/6000000007540971280

Son Conrad (mother Eliza) http://www.geni.com/genealogy/people/Conrad-Striethorst/6000000007540954582

Mother Eliza (married James Johnson???) http://www.geni.com/genealogy/people/Eliza-Wilkinson/6000000007540934212

I'm not sure if anyone can clarify any of this. I'm sure I can rely on the BC Archives as being accurate, but I'm not sure about these other records (or maybe I'm just confused)

Many Thanks,

Nathan

Northumberland / Morpeth twins - July 1898
« on: Thursday 15 July 10 09:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have a set of twins born in 1898 (parents living in North Seaton at the time). Ellen (Nellie) and George Anderson.

Being twins, should they both appear in the same BMD birth index page?

The only one I could locate with both Ellen and George was July, Aug, Sep 1898 - Morpeth 10B 435

Is there any way to confirm that they both shared parents and birthdate without buying both certificates from the GRO?

Thanks,

Nathan.

Northumberland / George Anderson family links
« on: Friday 09 July 10 09:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I have a George Anderson born 1872 marrying a George Ellen Swan born 1872 in Woodhorn.

The Swan side I have sorted.

My 1901 census of the family - RG13/4837 Pg 10 has George being born in Northumberland, Sleekburn.

I purchased George and George Ellen's marriage certificate from the GRO (married 9th July 1896, Woodhorn). It states that George's father was Alexander Anderson, no age or birthplace.

I had mistakenly placed George Anderson's father as another George Anderson from the area but the marriage certificate clearly states Alexander.

Now I'm on the trail of Alexander Anderson with son George born 1872.

I've tracked down an Alexander Anderson in both 1891 and 1881 census'. Both have a George Anderson born 1872. He was born 1852 in Seghill and he married Mary Ann born Durham 1848.

1881 - RG11/5119 Pg 31
1891 - RG12/4260 Pg 37

Can someone with a better knowledge of the areas provide some help making this link? The birthplaces from 1881-1901 for the 1872 George Anderson change from Bedlington to Barrington to Sleekburn.

Many thanks.

Nathan.
