Lancashire / Dick Kerr's Ladies
« on: Saturday 09 June 12 15:52 BST (UK)  »
I know that my Great Grand Aunt Lily Martin was a member of the Dick Kerr Ladies Football Team in the 1920's, but I am unable to find any information specific to her or point her out on any of the team photo's.  I have read Barbara Jacobs book and emailed her, but she was very unhelpful stating "Everything I know is in my book".  Does anyone have any more information at all or can point me at another resource other than dickkerrladies.com and the 2 books available?

TIA

Lancashire / Prescot St Mary's Cemetery - Shocking!
« on: Tuesday 15 March 11 16:59 GMT (UK)  »
Sorry to any locals to Prescot, but I really feel I need to rant about this....

Myself and my friend had a trip to Prescot St Mary's cemetery today to try find his Grandparents Grave, but were unable to find it due to the unbelievably shocking state of the "older" side.  Most of the gravestones are in an abysmal state, either broken pushed over or just plain missing.  Most of the ground around the plots looks like it's had a motocross race round it and there are broken bottles, rubbish and drug paraphernalia everywhere!  How does it get into such a state?!

Anyway, despite the condition of the cemetery, the people at the local registration office are wonderful and can't help enough.

Rant over...

Lancashire / Can't find a Woodcock Burial
« on: Tuesday 09 September 08 17:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi all!

I'm having problems finding the burial place of my 4x G-Grandfather James Woodcock, could anyone point me in a direction I haven't thought of?

According to Free-BMD, he died in 1856 in Tarleton (Definitely him as he disappears between the 1851 and 1861 census's and there's only one Woodcock family in Tarleton and we're still there!) but on Lan-OPC he's not listed in the Tarleton burial records for the relevant period and he's not listed in Ormskirk where he was married or Halsall where he was born!

I hope they didn't bury him under the patio!

Thanks in advance

Census and Resource Discussion / Census Indexer's Forum?
« on: Monday 28 February 05 12:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I was wondering if there was a dedicated place where indexers of census's could chat and post queries and tips etc.  I've just started indexing for Standish nr Liverpool and found the lack of help on decyphering writing and other similar problems very lacking.  A forum where you could post your problems and get help from other people who have more experience could speed up the process a lot.  Any ideas?
