Waimea Plains Railway opening Gore 1880.

In the 1880's my great grandparents and their family were regular users of this railway between Gore and Balfour in Northern Southland, New Zealand.

They were farmers at Longridge Nth, Balfour until the early 1900's.

My great grand father James Glennie is buried in the Balfour cemetery.

Might it be possible for a skilled person person to clean up or otherwise enhance this image please?

Any assistance would be much appreciated and valued.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Ethel Jane Kelly .. Help Please?
« on: Friday 20 March 20 07:40 GMT (UK)  »
Ethel Jane Kelly aged seven years died on the 07.01.1930 as a result of an accident at Mokotua east of Invercargill when a Ministerial Train on the Seaward Bush Branch Railway Line collided with a truck.

The truck was driven by her father Arthur William Kelly aged 32 years who also perished as a result of the accident.

Both Ethel Kelly and her father can be found interred in the Eastern Cemetery, Invercargill.

This accident was well reported in the newspapers of the time both locally and up and down the country.  The Southland Times is not searchable on Papers Past post 1920 either for Ethel Kelly's birth or her death in 1930.

The problem now is that I can not find a record of Ethel Jane Kelly's birth.  This does not appear on Births, Deaths and Marriages Online.  Her death record simply states that she was 7 years of age.

A number of Public family Trees on Ancestry.Com all record Ethel's date D.O.B. as 1923 an easy assumption I guess.  Family Search gives a similar result

Information for Births on BDM Online is not available unless a birth is more then 100 years ago, hence I cannot search for Ethel's precise date of birth if it is recorded at all.

Ethel Jane's mother is recorded as Rhoda Jane Kelly wife of Alexander William Kelly.  She later remarried and became Rhoda Jane Metzger and is recorded on the Kelly grave site in Invercargill when she passed away in 1971.

Perhaps I am missing the obvious somewhere!!

Please, can anyone assist with Ethel Jane Kelly's record of birth?

Any help or assistance would be much appreciated.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Clifton Hotel, Invercargill
« on: Saturday 02 March 19 21:26 GMT (UK)  »
Old Clifton Hotel on corner of Avon Road and Bluff Road, Invercargill.  Later became a shop then in the 1960's was demolished.  Today in 2019 only remnants of concrete foundation remain.

Close to Clifton Primary School that I attended in the 1950's / 1960's.  This school was closed in the 1980's.

Photograph dates pre 1900.  Roads today are bitumen and major highway between Invercargill and Bluff.

Would there be a kind person please who can clean and tidy the photograph?  There is a reflection near bottom left corner that needs to be removed.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Thank you

The photograph is the only one known of the vessel at sea in or near Dunedin Harbour and was cropped from an old magazine from the 1970's.

This inquiry / research is a little different to matters that are normally posted.

However I wonder by some small chance that there might be some kind person living near or in Freiburg, Germany and might be able to access archives at the Außenansicht des Bürogebäudes der Abteilung Militärarchiv des Bundesarchivs in Freiburg.

I am seeking information on the SMS Wolf and it's commander Karl August Nerger.  The Wolf was an armed merchant raider that operated in WW1.

I do have file numbers and can identify the records very accurately if some willing person was able to assist.

Any other information  that might facilitate access to these records would much appreciated.

In anticipation thank you
