Dublin / Deansgrange Burial records
« on: Friday 24 September 21 23:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I have used https://www.dlrcoco.ie/en/cemeteries/burial-records in the past to get burial records for Deansgrange cemetery.  There was a way to get an image of the ledger page on which the burial was recorded.  This was useful since it gave address information.  Looking for a burial just now, I find there is no link to the ledger page.  Am I missing something or is it no longer possible to access the ledger image?

Dublin / Directory Look-up Clanbrassil Street Dublin
« on: Monday 03 May 21 20:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I'm wondering if someone with access to Thom's for the 1950s or early 1960s can look up Lower Clanbrassil Street and tell me who the occupiers of number 66 were.  The building may have been divided into 66A and 66B.
Thank you

Dublin / House numbering on the South Circular Road
« on: Friday 13 September 19 17:27 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to determine the location of St Joseph's Nursing Home (a private maternity home) which was on the South Circular Road in the 1940s.  I thought the house number was 102.  However, 102 South Circular Road is currently a cafe.  I could be wrong, but the building does not strike me as having been a maternity home in the past.  So, I wonder if house numbering on the road changed at some point.  The present 102 is close to Leonard's Corner, i.e. the junction with Clanbrassil Street.  If anyone with access to a Thom's directory for the 1940s could check where it places 102, I would be very much obliged.  The proprietor of St Joseph's was surnamed McKeown or McKeon.

England / Dixon Meadows, Captain in the naval service of the East India Company
« on: Wednesday 18 April 18 00:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I've come across this gentleman in family research.  I understand that there is a book "A Biographical Index of East India Company Maritime Service Officers 1600-1834" by Anthony Farrington that I imagine would have information on him.  It appears to be unavailable to buy (at least on Amazon) so I'm wondering if someone has a copy and could check to see what it says about Dixon Meadows.  I'm writing from Ireland and haven't been able to find a library copy here.
Any information would be welcome.
Best regards

Ireland / Irish Times Archive search
« on: Monday 13 February 17 15:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I currently have a sub to the Irish Times in order to search for family death notices.  I am having some difficulty in reducing the search results to manageable proportions.  Searching for O'Brien deaths (putting "death" and "o'brien" in the search box) I find highlighted items include other names with an O prefix and extraneous things like "o'clock".  I would welcome advice from people more familiar with the vagaries of the IT search engine on how to find what I want without having to wade through hundreds of results.

Dublin / Hospital in Blackrock in 1920s
« on: Saturday 07 January 17 21:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

In a death record of 1922, registered in Rathdown, the place of death is "S. S. Hospital, Blackrock".  Does anyone know what the "S. S." stands for?

Dublin / Thom's lookup request
« on: Thursday 15 September 16 11:21 BST (UK)  »
If anyone has a Thom's Directory for 1922, I would love to know what, if any, information it has about 2 Upper Camden Street. A granduncle who was interned during the civil war was either living at that address or arrested there in November 1922. Many thanks.

Dublin / Kennedy's Court
« on: Tuesday 28 June 16 15:46 BST (UK)  »
Does anybody know where Kennedy's Court is/was?  I have a couple of baptisms in the 1860s with addresses there.  What I know so far is that it is/was in St Andrew's parish and, according to the 1901/1911 censuses, in the Trinity ward.  Other addresses I have for the family are Hamilton Row, which was part of what is now Fenian Street, and Boyne Street, which still exists. Those places are also in the Trinity ward and St Andrew's parish so I suspect Kennedy's Court is/was nearby but I haven't been able to find it on the OSI's old 25" map.
