Hi all

Before Christmas I asked for help restoring a photo of Frank Thomas. He was to be part of a gallery of photos I was making for my son's Christmas gift (he was delighted), of his grandfathers, G grandfathers, GG grandfathers & G uncles.  Well...    I forgot one maternal G G grandfather! The  photo of Henry Cornelius Tyte is not good.  I was given a scan of a photo of two framed photos of Henry and his wife Eliza that was sent from Australia to another family member in the UK.   Is there any hope?  No frame please, just the person and B+W please as all the others are B+W.
Thanks once again in advance.
DUH! forgot photo when I posted the message!! so here it finally is.

The Common Room / Thomas John Batt 1929-1970 I can't find his birth.
« on: Tuesday 20 February 18 19:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have run into a brick wall with this, any help would be appreciated.

I am searching for the birth of Thomas John Batt from Barry Glamorgan, Wales.
Parents John Henry Batt, mother Martha Maria Begley.
His two siblings are Phillip Joseph Batt 29/Jan/1928 and Margaret A Batt 1933. He has 3 half siblings by his mother"s second marriage to James Williams

On his death certificate his brother Phillip Joseph Batt, gives his brother's birth date as 29/12/1929.
On two incoming passenger lists (Ancestry), Thomas gives his birth date as 29/12/1929.  On the 1939 register (FindMyPast) Thomas's birthday is given as 29/12/1930.   On his marriage certificate of 24/08/1957 he states that he is 27.

I tried a GRO search from 1928/1930 but they have no record of a birth.  I have searched through 1929 1930 and 1931 civil births on Ancestry but have come up with nothing.

He is not to be confused with the Thomas John Batt  24/01/1930  born in Orsett Essex to Albert Hector Batt And Violet Mary Lindsey.

Thanks Ricky

Wigtownshire / looking for birth of Francis (Frank Stewart) Drummore Wigtownshire
« on: Saturday 15 October 16 02:08 BST (UK)  »
I have hit a brick wall here.  Tried everything but can't find him before 1871. He is the father of my illegitimate grandmother  Margaret Stewart Jenkins. His name is not on the birth certificate.  She was born and raised in Llanishen Cardiff

March 1871 Frank age 33 is lodging Fidlas Road, Llanishen, Glamorgan, Wales with Richard Yorath, Margaret Stewart Jenkin's grandfather.

In 1871 Mary Jenkins, Margaret's mother,is living nearby in Cardiff with her two children by her husband Thomas Jenkins who is not recorded as living there. Later that year Mary gives birth to Margaret Stewart Jenkins, no father's name on the certificate

On the 1881 Scotland Census Frank Stewart age 43 records his birth as being  Drummore Wigtownshire 1838. He is lodging in Ardchattan, Argyll Scotland,  with a railway worker. Frank recorded as a labourer.

On the 1891 census Frank age 49 is recorded as lodging with John Walters stoker and family, at Danygraig, Rudry Cardiff. Frank is a platelayer.

In 1895 Margaret records him on her marriage certificate as "father Frank Stewart "Jenkins" Railway Ganger.   In 1896 her first son is named Frank Stewart Sherlock.

March 1901  Frank Stewart age 62 boarding at  17 Grove Street, Caerphilly,Glamorgan, Wales Foreman. Lodging with Thomas Rees (a Railway plate layer) and his wife.

In 1910 age 72 he dies in Barry Dock, Wales by drowning. While living  or visiting with his daughter Margaret Stewart Sherlock nee Jenkins.  Newspaper reports confirm that he is her father.  In his will his Daughter Margaret Stewart Jenkins in named as sole executor

I cannot find him before 1871  With the exception of the 1881 census Frank lists his place of birth as Scotland.  On each census he is unmarried.  I have searched extensively on Scotlands peopleto no avail.

Family "lore" seems to confirm everything. It seems Margaret was very proud of being of Scottish heritage.  She told my father that another  family name was LaFever or perhaps Lafervre,  Although not a Scottish name there are variations of the name Lefevre to be found in Scotland's censuses. No clues to them either.  Any suggestions? I visit Scotland once a year for a couple of months.

Thanks Ricky

Can anyone help with these two photos of my late sister Eluned Sherlock.  One looks like a school photo taken in Barry Wales sometime during  WW2.  The other taken in Nova Scotia Canada 1948/1949.  It would be most appreciated.  During the last years of her life Eluned suffered from Dementia and threw away family  photo albums.  I have been trying to assemble an album for her daughter.

Thanks in advance
