Canada / Jonathan McDonald
« on: Saturday 01 August 15 15:03 BST (UK)  »
Seeking information on a Jonathan McDonald born 1818 Scotland appears in the 1881 census living in lot 60 PEI.  Could possibly be the father of Mary McDonald Matheson born 1849 on PEI and is buried in Caledonia cemetery.  Jonathan McDonald is living with his son John McDonald and his wife Sarah MacKenzie during the 1881 census listed as a widower aged 63.  John McDonald and Sarah McKenzie were witnesses for Mary McDonald and John Matheson when they got married October 23/1877 in Georgetown, PEI just an assumption John McDonald and Mary McDonald could be siblings.

She appears in the 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 census in lot 59 on the Whim Road and had one daugther Catherine McDonald born 1855.   Did try familysearch and Scotland People but no luck yet. « on: Saturday 24 March 12 21:45 GMT (UK)  »
Searching an Ann McDonald born in Uachdar about 1826.  Her parents were Norman McDonald of North Uist and her mother Jessie MacAulay of South Uist.  Also researching other MacAulay's that came to Prince Edward Island especially the Tracadie McDonald's.  Norman McDonald and Jessie MacAulay settled in lot 59 PEI and Dan McDonald settled in Cape Breton and I found Dan McDonald through Rootschat.    Ann McDonald did not emigrate with her family and she does appear in the 1841 census.

Cork / Jeremiah Daly
« on: Monday 11 July 11 13:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi!

Looking for any records of a Jeremiah Daly or Peter Daly who owned Daly Brothers linen manufacturing in Cork probably about 1800.  I have know idea of the parish but Jeremiah Daly's son Daniel Daly (1795) immigrated to Boston about 1812.  Peter Daly is supposed to have built a chapel or church for his local parish and Daniel Daly has started to study to be a priest before he got in trouble with wine and women.  The family had also be involved in wool combing.

Thanks, Jane

Family History Beginners Board / Any advice? finding McDonald's
« on: Wednesday 26 January 11 22:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hello:

Murdoch McDonald born 1834 Scotland moved to Prince Edward Island.  He show's up here in all the census but have no idea where in Scotland he came from.  I suspect Invernessshire and most likely Skye because many of the people who settled in lot 61 and surrounding areas came from Skye or North and South Uist.  I have tried narrowing it down on SP and Family Search and every other site I can think of.  I tried the naming pattern and the closest I can get is the 1841 census Colbost in Duirinish but not sure if that's the right one.  Immigration records are very sketchy but I did find on who came on the ship London to Pictou for Nova Scotia bound for PEI.  I have researched every Murdoch McDonald I can find in the area but none of the family histories match up.
I am still a novice at this and seem to have hit a brick wall.
Any idea's anyone?

Thanks, Jane

Trying to find information on Murdock McDonald born probably Skye 1834.   Murdock McDonald immigrated to Prince Edward Island about 1858.  He married a Jessie MacDonald daughter of Charles MacDonald and Mary Buchanan and their first son Alexander was born in 1861 in PEI.
Murdock is a widower in the 1881 census and Charles is living with him and listed as a widower also.
