Leicestershire / mainly ASHBY-DE-LA-ZOUCH Headstone photos & transcripts
« on: Monday 15 September 14 01:04 BST (UK)  »
When I was in England in May this year I photographed headstones in several places, but mainly the Kilwardby Street Cemetery in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, names BAGNALL, THORNLEY & WILLSHEE.  I'm trying to find a suitable site on which to upload them. Billion graves expects you to use an app on your smartphone (No!) and Find-a-grave seems to be focussed on people of fame or status.  Any advice?  Also happy to share the pics with descendents of the above names.

Known surviving children were: John Niven Strachan, an Ironmonger, who d. 1955. His wife was Jessie Small.  Informant at death was his sister Margaret who had married George Wilson SMALL in 1934.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to how or if any living descendents of these people can be traced and contacted?
This query is on behalf of a descendent of Helen, b. 1872, a sister of William Strachan; she married Robert GORDON.
Thanks. Sylvia

Europe / Germany - Ostfriesland - RIECKEN
« on: Friday 18 October 13 13:44 BST (UK)  »
I've just received copy of naturalisation docs from TNA for a German baker, named Johannn Heinrich RIECKEN. He would have arrived in London probably late 1870s. Naturalisation docs (from 1911) give his date of birth as 20 May 1848 in "Werdom amt Esen, Ostfriesland" (at least I think that's what it says). Have worked out general location in NW Germany, even place called Esens - but Werdom is complete mystery. Any ideas, or where I might find church or civil regn records?
Thanks - in hope but not expectation!

Leicestershire / Breedon-on-the-Hill
« on: Thursday 14 March 13 12:31 GMT (UK)  »
I have found listed on Google Books: "History of Breedon-on-the-Hill: Church & Village with views" by F Taylor, pub. 1906, by Bemrose & Sons Ltd of Derby & London.  I have not yet been able to find a digitised copy. Would anyone have a copy of this or be able to consult one for me?  (I am in Sydney, Aus).  Thanks in anticipation.
